Asato Tsuzuki is the head top Guardian of Death in the Kyushu branch of Hades (where the Guardians of Death work), although he's not really aware of it. This is because Tsuzuki has an addiction to food. He runs high food bills, especially when it comes to sweets and cakes (his favorite is apple pie), which is not taken well by Tatsumi the penny-pinching secretary. Because of his skill he somehow manages to get off every time, but it's still hard for him to hang onto a partner. Tsuzuki's newest partner is Hisoka.
Even though Tsuzuki seems to be immature and far too kind for his own good, he has a serious side too. He tends to take everything serious in his own ways, but especially certain cases. Tsuzuki seems to detest Muraki most of all for what he's done not only to Hisoka but to so many others as well.
Tsuzuki can summon the twelve animal gods (or "Shinigami") according to the manga, however in the anime it is only three- Suzaku (a fire-bird), Byakko (a tiger), and a snake.
His dark past obviously affects what kind of a person he is now, and he seems to constantly regret what's happened to him.
Asato Tsuzuki is the slacker of the department. In the department Tsuzuki would be called the worse Guardian of Death. But that might not be the case since some wacko guy (Muraki) is after him. But despite the idiot side, there is part of him that is serous. At first his past is unknown, but as time goes it comes out.

Tsuzuki is gay and cares deeply for Hisoka, yet he is also drawn to Muraki by his darker side; how else to you explain Muraki's constant escapes from Tsuzuki. It appears that the majority of the characters are in some way fasinated by Tsuzuki and can not seem to be able to resist the beautiful creature that he is cause when you observe the anime the others seem rather obsessed with him. ... show more »

Wow, lots of arguing over whether or not Tsuzuki is gay, hm? Personally, I'm willing to say he's bi. My reason? He likes women, he's fallen for women, but some of his interactions with other male characters (namely Tatsumi and Hisoka) push what would be an otherwise close brotherly relationship. There was a picture in the manga of Tatsumi and Tsuzuki with their arms around each other in a way that straight guys wouldn't be doing. As for Tsuzuki and Hisoka...I believed them to have a brotherly relationship at first, but so much of the official art portrays otherwise, as well as some parts of the manga, like the scene when Hisoka was comforting him and was about 2 inches away from his face, fingers holding his chin and their foreheads pressed together. That's just not something I can see two men doing if there wasn't something more between them. Tsuzuki is a naturally affectionate, caring individual, but he seems to be closer to Hisoka than any of the other characters. Of course, with Hisoka's past and fear of physical contact, forming a relationship with anybody would take a long time, male or female. Tsuzuki is probably just who he needs- somebody patient, kind and loving.
I don't think I'd put the series under a boys love genre, however, since there is no heavy romance.
Also, Muraki's fiance isn't dead. She is still alive, as seen in the two side-stories, and is the one person Muraki is truly in love with. He has no true love for Tsuzuki. ... show more »

Asato isn't gay...annd neither is Hisoka (he totally fell for Tsubaki/Irene). In one of Asato's cases in the manga there is a total connection between him and this dancer before she too, has to pass on and that was simlar to Hisoka's relationship with Tsubaki. I believe Asato and Hisoka's relationship is strong but not to a point to where it is sexual (or sexually hinted). They're partners who grow to being best friends and that bond is strengthened because of Muraki...
Besides if Tsuzuki (it's rather strange for me to call him by his first name lol) was gay he would've been with Tatsumi- but that's a different debate!
I just hope the author gets out of hiatus...soon... ... show more »

Considering this anime/manga is a GAY manga (it isn't described as a 'boy love' manga for nothing) then yes, characters in the manga/anime will be GAY characters which means that yes, there is a VERY huge chance that Muraki, Hisoka, Tatsumi, Watari, Tsuzuki etc are actually GAY characters. Tszuki is gay, sorry to break it to you non belivers but he is, you don't act the way he does around men if he was 100% straight and the same for Muraki, just because Muraki ONCE had a female lover doesn't mean he STILL swings that way, she is DEAD he can have easily moved on to males, many males in RL move on to males and break up with their wives, it is normal. ... show more »

Look guys- whether Tsu-san is gay or not, why should we care? We'll love him either way, no? :3 Let him be whatever makes Tsuzuki happy D:

Okay we know Muraki is gay, or at least bi since he has a female fiancee, but why does everyone think Tsuzuki is? Just because he's close to Hisoka and Watari. Even Tatsumi. Hasn't anyone heard of
FRIENDSHIP? Not saying the creator may not have wanted him to be gay, but to automatically assume it? Just because he cares for his friends, Get you minds out of the gutter! Got nothing against being gay, but the whole automtatic assumptions get a bit muchish. Yeah I'm a b--ch.Deal! ... show more »
