Goku Jr is Pan's Great Great Grandson, and he was named "Goku" by Pan to honor his "Grandpa" Kakarotto. He wears a bandanna (similar to his "Grandpa" Bardock) and can go Super Saiyan. In the TV Special, his "grandma" was ill and he goes to search for the Dragon Balls to restore hear. When nothing works (he has ONE Dragon Ball), his grandpa Kakarotto appeared and told him that he needs 7 Dragon Balls to make a wish. Kakarotto gives him the four star Dragon Ball (something like Grandpa Gohan did to Kakarotto when he was a boy).
Later in episode 64 he fights Vegeta Jr, who was Vegeta's "grandson" , however it is unknown who won since the series ends.
A lot of fans are confused as to whether Goku Jr. is Pan's Grandson or Great Great Grandson, because he calls her "Grandma". However, taking into account Pan's age in the last episode of Dragon Ball GT (which is about 113-114), it's obvious that he is her Great Great Grandson. (Also, Kakarotto has problems in the TV special when counting on his fingers how many "Great"'s he gets.)

DJmonk - Dub line , in the japanese version Goku jr is indeed Pan's Great great grandson as she states it herself to that Bulma lookalike woman

Obviously its sexist because Pan is the only one that can't go super sayain out of all the people related to Goku or Vegeta. I beleive that she was simply not strong enough, but Goku jr. is a champ. He simple could be a reincarnation of Goku. look at Uub. Therefore Pan could have adopted the young Goku (or found like goten did with goku) and trained him to become just like the original goku. ... show more »

Well, it's obvious that he isn't a full saiyan, because it takes 2 full saiyans to make another full saiyan. However, if you have 2 half saiyans then you will produce another half saiyan. So, my point is, maybe pan had kids with trunks, or vegeta could have had another son, which would be mixing a Quarter saiyan with a half saiyan. This would probably be pure enuogh to turn super saiyan. which goku jr. did. So he must have been somewhere close to a half saiyan at least. the GT storylines have a lot of holes in them. we never find out who goku jr's parents are, we dont learn anything of what occurred during the 100 years that Goku has been gone, we dont even find out who won the fight between goku jr and vegeta jr
