Redesigned PSP to launch later this year.

Post by GravyTrain »

PSM magazine has confirmed that a redesigned version of the PSP is in development and will be released later this year, most likely to coincide with the PS3 launch.

Confirmed features:
1. Weight reduction
2. Size reduction in terms of thickness
3. Improved battery life
4. At least 4 gigabytes of built in flash memory (can be upgraded with the same memory sticks from the original PSP)
5. Built in digital camera and eyetoy.
6. Built in microphone.

The camera and microphone can be used together in wi-fi areas to video-chat with anyone else who owns a redesigned PSP or PS3 with eyetoy. Digital photos taken on the PSP can be sent directly to the PS3 and vice versa. The PS3 can also be used as a location free player to stream live TV to your PSP.

----------

I'll definitely be getting this when it comes out, assuming that there are any good PSP games at the time, or I haven't yet beaten Syphon Filter at the time of release.

The video conferencing makes the communication features on the PSP better than most cell phones in most respects. The only limitation of course, is that you have to be in a wi-fi area and whoever is on the other end of the line must also have a new PSP.

Sony definitely needs this redesign if it wants to succeed in the handheld market. The PSP was being trounced by the DS (in sales) to begin with and the release of the DS Lite, which has sold out everywhere that it was released, will only hit Sony harder by shortening the distance that the PSP held over the DS in design and function.

If Sony wants me or anyone else to get a PS3 AND a new PSP, they better not make it any higher than $250.

I promise, this is the last name change. And don't you dare take one of my old names. I'll write you down if you do.

Nah. Nobody is going to buy that thing for $300. Taking into consideration current sales of the PSP, Sony can't afford to put off customers with an even higher price than the original.

Sweet. I was getting kinda jealous of my brother always playing and showing off that big-ass psp to my face when better games finally started to come around. I'll be getting the newer model too cuz some reason the regular psp hurts my wrists after awhile cuz of it's size, shape, and wieght.

It'll just be how I waited for a gba sp than straight jumping to a regular one

This is the biggest load of crap ever. Nintendo handhelds pull the same crap all the time. It's called productive marketing, and it's a way for them to rake in the money. Take my word that they could have came out with this new and improved PSP from the getgo, but decided to wait awhile until everyone buys the original and then put the improved one on the market so everyone trashes the orignal.

Ah well, better for me. This'll dramatically bring the prices down of the original PSP so I'll be able to save some money.
