Well, there are several topics on this, but...
I want PS3. Why? Best of the next gen graphics, promising sequels to currently popular franchises, and is overall an amazingly powerful system that, while costing you quite a bit of savings, will define next-gen. Personally, graphics dont always matter for me, but they certainly allow for more interesting gameplay with realistic values. Below is my arguement to Sony's pricetag.
I'm gonna interject here on the issue of Sony's pricetag. First of all, IMO< its pretty damn rich for Peter Moore to comment on how expensive the PS3 is. Picture this for a minute folks; Microsoft releases a $400 system with a 20GB harddrive, no wireless reader, and wireless controller. Xbox Live costs approx. $50 per year. Wireless adapter costs $100. Now then, lets look at PS3. The $600 system comes with a 60GB harddrive; thats triple of the 360. PS3 has Wi-Fi card reader, winning over the 360, since no peripherals need to be bought for wireless online play. PS3 has FREE online play. FREE downloadable content. Lasatly, the PS3 boasts the most powerful of the next gen console processors and graphics engines. This is has been proven; just google it.
Now, lets calculate the cost of the Xbox 360 offering all that is can to match the PS3.
Xbox 360 console: $400
Xbox 360 Wi-Fi adapter: $100
Xbox 360 online fees (1 year): $50
Total: $550.
Ok, so $50 less all the same. But will people really only play online for one year? Add on all those downloadable content prices. Plus, remeber that PS3 has triple the harddrive and a much more powerful processor. Looking at it from this view, with competition of the Xbox 360, the PS3 can appear as a much more efficient deal! Plus, if you want Xbox 360 to have a net 60GB harddrive, tack on an extra $200 dollars to that $550.
My point is, for what the PS3 is offering, the price seems definetely suitable. If you analyze it in comparison with other systems and try to calculate what other systems would need to match PS3, you'd find that the net price would be around $550-$750. So, IMO, you can't really say PS3 is expensive for what it is, because in terms of product, it soundly wins over the Xbox 360 and offers more for a price that Xbox 360 wouldn't be able to match should they provide the same equipment.
