Character Description: Muska
Muska is the topmost secret agent of the government who is searching for Laputa. Unknown to his colleagues, however, Muska has plans of his own. He intends to use the powerful technology that empowers the floating island as a deadly weapon, and will stop at nothing to get it. To achieve this, he has kidnapped Sheeta from her home in Gondoa and holds her prisoner. Suspecting that his captive's mysterious crystal pendant is somehow connected with Laputa, Muska persuades Sheeta to cooperate and use her crystal's magic to locate the floating island.
Cultured and dashing in appearance, but deceptive, greedy, and ruthless at the core, Muska is also devilishly manipulative--he leads the government and its General as well as his two associates on the search for Laputa, only to dispose of them all when he finally conquers Laputa. Of course, his reign proves to be temporary, because Sheeta and Pazu cast the devastating "Spell of Destruction" to demolish Laputa's secret weapons, and, like most villainous tyrants, Muska meets his demise when the floating structure caves in.
Rarely has a Hayao Miyazaki production contained a "bad guy" with no redeeming characteristics whatsoever, but Muska (in addition to the Count in Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro) is an exception... and what a villain he is!
