Portgaz D. Ace is Luffy's older brother. He and Luffy tend to get into fights about who's the strongest, so they can be a little silly.
Ace is more muscular than Luffy (Luffy is all gummy and thin) and most of the time shows off about it.
Portgaz D. Ace rolls with the Whitebeard pirates, and is the second-in-command on the ship. And, Ace is somewhat of a narcoleptic (someone who just falls asleep without warning). This causes him to doze off in the strangest places during the strangest times. Ace has the powers of the 'Flare Flare' fruit which gives him the power to make and control heat.
Luffy sees his brother at a town near Alabasta.
Portgas D. Ace parted with Luffy at Yuba.
Ace was first introduced in the Alabastan city of Nanohana sleeping in the spicebean restaurant. He left Fuchsia Village three years before Luffy and is the second in command of Whitebeard, Edward Newgate, who is his captain.
Portgas D. Ace has eaten the Devil Fruit Mera-Mera {Flare Flare}, a logia type fruit, giving him pyrokinetic abilities and his reputation as "Fire Fist Ace".
Ace is neither a friend of the Straw Hat pirates nor is he against them. He was in Alabasta to search for his former crew member Blackbeard, who used to be in Whitebeard's Crew. Blackbeard killed his crew and fled and now Ace is looking for him to kill him for his crimes.

Crossed out "S" in ACE tattoo means SABO...he is one of them who dream to become pirate...i love the story so much...Sabo is much sweeter than Ace before he died..well not really sure if he really died because the time those celestial dragons visits Goa, Dragon is there and met Luffy and Ace brother Sabo (they swore that they are brothers, whereas Luffy is their Youngest brother because Sabo and Ace were same age).. Gosh! I just can't move on with how sweet brother Ace was with Luffy really makes me cry..T_T he doesn't deserve to die ...but because of that it gives a very huge effect with the story T_T its became more intense...but I'am happy with the mv where Ace presence push Luffy to the straw hat..like saying "Follow your dream" ...the only regret of Ace...not seeing his younger brother fulfilling his dream T_T ..damn makes me cry again..huhuhu ... show more »

I cried when Ace died... I knew it was coming, so I didn't cry as much as I should have. I was more sad about Luffy's reaction :( *tears appear in eyes* Still a sensitive subject for me. But his dying speech was so sweet... I loved it

Ace's dad is Roger, Luffy's is Dragon,
the 2 are not blood related, Roger convinces Garp, their grandfather to take care of Ace before he died, Luffy and Ace just formed a bound as they got to kno each other while living together

I just now realized after seeing who their dad is. Gol -D- Roger. Monkey (why monkey!?) -D- Luffy and Portgas -D-. Ace. I can't believe it took me this long to connect alot of it...now i feel stupid.
