Japanese anime rateings

Post by Kyle Bloodheart »

I am not skilled at seeing different art styles, and most of the old school anime looks to have the same general style to me.

How would this "class" work? Would it be some sort of new thread, or something completely different?

I think that old school animes that define a genre should be included in the "grading."

I'm just brainstorming. Probably just a thread under Anime Discussion devoted to "old school" where we discuss and recommend no title unless it is at least 5 years old? ten years old? Perhaps get get into the bodies of work by prominent directors and creators like Leiji Matsujmoto. Really hoping Duuz will help out on this as I am, as I said, a late bloomer. WhoWantsToKnow would be a help and perhaps even the Webmaster.

Mostly kidding about the "passing grade." But a discussion thread based around the building of such a curriculum could be fun. Old School Anime 101 perhaps?

I am not quite sure how much help I will be with that. I would call myself an early-late bloomer. I learned about anime at a young age, but had almost no access to it until recently. I still have little access to anime at this time. I really hate being in the middle of nowhere.

WhoWantsToKnow would probably be the one who helps the most, since he/she seems like the anime guru around here, but I haven't seen him/her around lately.

We would have to strictly define "old school" early in the thread, or end up with many people posting about recent creations, instead of only a few.

it would be great to have an old school anime thread. btw, this might be a little off topic, but has anyone ever played the super robot taisen series of games? they are turn based strategy games that incorporate mecha from various series into one storyline. The version I played, Super robot taisen MX had many of my old school favorites such as Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, Grendizer, Daimos, Getter Robo G, and some of my newer favorites such as ZZ gundam and RahXephon. this game introduced me to a lot of new series that i now want to see licensed (Metal Armor Dragonar, Yuusha Raideen, Gear Fighter Dendoh). any old school mecha fan has got to check this game out, although it might be expensive to import

Slayers, I remember that series. Funny, it's how our games of D&D usually end up.

An Old school Appreciation I like it, but how many people here know of them. The old school series like Urusei Yatsura, Macross, AT Votoms, Slayers, Yamato, Gatchaman, Cat's Eye, Jack and the Witch, Astroboy, Creamy Miami that's Miami not Cream Lemon! Area 88.

And about the new school becoming old school in 15 to 20 years. I don't think most current lazy fans would care as they're getting the series they want to see now. They aren't going to have to wait for them like I did for the old school series I always wanted to see.

I really got involves with anime in the mid 80's with the symdication of the hybrid anime Robotech, but I watched Starblazers and then called "Battle of the Planets" long before that. And I remember an old anime movie I saw when I was like 7 on TV, that's the Jack and the Witch" movie.

TurnA, ZZ Gundam was made shortly after Zeta Gundam. Or do you mean you've just recently discovered it?
