Monster is far superior to both. Far darker and more mysterious than either of them. It also is much more intelligent and you get a much deeper look at both the detective and the serial killer.

Though of these 2 series, Death Note is better

I'd have to say that it really depends. :/ I like Detective Conan because its cute, and I'm really childish, so more serious animes usually turn me off, but I like Deathnote also.

Seeing as Deathnote is naturally targeting an older crowd, of course the story is going to be more intellectual. But the things they have in Detective Conan are usually pretty snazzy. Lol. Something right out of Shinichi's fave mysteries with Sherlock Holmes.

(But I'd have to say I like Kindaichi Case Files better than DN or DC.)

Death Note all the way. The story is more complex. L and Light's epic battle to me is one of the best fights in any of the anime/manga I have seen. Mikami is kinda creepy though.

Well I thought the question was about who was the better detective not what show you like better or who you think is cuter, anyways I will have to say Conan is a better overall Detective, I mean sometimes he only has hours to solve some of these murder cases, L is great, but I thought the key to being a great detective is to actually solve the case and not be out smarted and killed.

I thought it was which series was better, not Conan vs. L. And L was said to have solved hundreds (or thousands, I forget) of cases in Death Note series. The Kira Case just happened to be the one that did him in. But since we didn't really get to see L solve those cases, I'll give it to Conan. I can't go on hype alone, I've at least seen Conan in action.

well, i like detective conan more because it has obviously more adult themes. i mean, everyone knows that death note is for kids.

it doesn't surprise me at all that death note never actually won any awards while detective conan won 4 awards for being the best anime ^^

death note also copied one year later that story arc. i think that is really pathetic. ^^

anyway, kids will love death note for being a very easy tv series where the main character is a stupid teenager.
kids and adults should watch detective conan for it's adult themes and complex stories.

that is highly debatable since i can easily show you one detective conan special that has more plot twists than the entire monster series - not to mention a better plot. ^^

I want say Death Note, but I like Conan, too. But I think it should stop once again, it is easier to stop when you do not need to remember.
