Have you ever been made fun of because you like anime?

I've never been made fun of for watching Anime however, I was for watching Love Hina (I'm a guy btw.), because people are short sighted... that's one funny how/Manga. Then my Anime liking friend called me strange for listening to music from an Anime... my response was that he happened to be listening to a soundtrack for Cowboy Bebop at the time...

>_< My my. He said that to you, then it turned out he was listening to Cowboy Bebop songs (which rock, by the way)? Hehehehe. Isn't irony great. Hey! I can use that for my English teacher!
I get kinda ragged on, but I have my one friend, Alexis, who's almost as hard-core fan of anime as I am, though she can draw it really well! So, we're both labled as Goth and Anime Freakzoids. But it's cool. You can cuss them out in Japanese, but you can say it in a nice way so they don't know. Heh heh heh.

Not sure about that, Neji-san. *pauses and ducks behind a random member* I get it from my family, and just shut up about it at school. Seriously. They do everything from changing my name to their newly made-up titles or informing me---not the person sitting next to them, it has to be ME across the room---that yes, anime is gay, and stupid, and not rated (this was Christmas), and go on to inform me that--again, did you notice the ME?---anime should not be encouraged. I hope they know nothing of manga. But it sucks.
Also, I do get a lot of "You're too old for that now" stuff and I just tell him he's jealous he isn't as young and fit as me and is probablly wishing he could like anime, too!
So mean. *complainscomplains* People are so mean!!

Too old? TOO OLD? Look:Shippu no Jin wrote: ...Also, I do get a lot of "You're too old for that now" stuff.....
Hayao Miyazaki born 1941 (Spirited Away and MANY more)
Katsuhiro Otomo. born 1954 (Akira)
Hideaki Anno, born in 1960, is famous as the creator of Evangelian.
I'll stop here. AGE has nothing to do with enjoying or creating anime. See above. I was going to research a newer anime, but I'm beat!

I live in england and go to an all boys school/college and im the only actual anime fan i know of in the entire school of like 600 people there are a couple of others who drew comics then started reading manga and drawing and i hang around with them regurly often and like talk about it which is a relief for me but they dont watch anime much. Im pretty lucky shopwise cause theres a shop in town tht sells any colllectible stuff ya want and so have comics and also literally 100s of manga novels and all the cool extra on sale but people give you dodgy looks when ya go in there. People in america just seem a lot more loss about it and theres a lot lot lot more fanboys out there. Wish there were more people who like anime like me in esssex

re: Have you ever been made fun of because you like anime?
Try being an out-of-school anime freak! I can't even talk about it at work because they think anime is either "Yu-Gi-Oh" or porn. I've tried to explain that Anime is just as awesome as Bugs-Bunny was when it first came out in the 1930's.
Bugs was very out there when it first came out (and high tech too, it was in color and had sound!), and it dealt with all sorts of political issues, just like Anime does (but the artwork WAY rox better now).
5 years from now, all those people harrassing you will be mainstreaming Anime without a second thought. It just hasn't caught yet, we're setting the trend. By the time they catch up, we'll be watching the original Japanese versions of new stuff while they try to catch up watching what will be old school anime by then.
Hakkai...LOL! So true! Folks just don't understand how we can go out and spend more than a normal movie for "cartoons," and why we DON'T share our toys. Every time I've lent an anime to a non-anime watcher, I've had to replace an anime because it never came back.

re: Have you ever been made fun of because you like anime?
i don't get made fun of exactly, i just feel awkward @ school or @ home when my mom walks in @ the WRONG TIME during Inu Yasha. but its all gravy... i have a friend at school who is a FANTASTIC manga artist and shows everyone her drawings. I'm from The South so i don't get an anime club but i have a lot of buddies who are more into the different parts of it than i am
. At home the worst thing is trying to explain the storyline to my bro or mom(who wants to know why all the characters are European in features if it is Japanese) while having my OTHER bro trying to force my family to love it... not too pretty... i'm cool though
as to the book tv thing, i am your stereotypical bookworm(its why i use BIG words) and that is why i started watching anime... it requires enough smarts to figure out what's going on instead of becoming a zombie watching the same plots over and over and over(oh no! it's his sister's grandchild's evil twin bro's distantly related roommate's baby come to take revenge for.... something...)

Once or twice, but then I just slam em into a wall. It works wonders on people who think they can screw with you.

I used to have people make fun of me for liking anime(and manga) so I would never talk about it, but lately kids in my school have started to like it a lot so I don't really get teased anymore I do get some strange looks for liking Yu Gi Oh! specifically
