Well, most comedy anime isn't totally comedy, but they'll have a comedic focus with perhaps other genres to flesh them out and give body to the jokes. Excel Saga gets its comedy from poking fun at everything it could think of and flipping the bird at the censors. Even Puni Puni Poemy bases its comedy on something else: in this case, lampooning the Magical Girl genre.

To put it simply, anime humor is different, primarily because it's trying to make a Japanese laugh, and their tastes are different from us. Much of the humor in FLCL has cultural bases. Since Japanese programming tends to lean in the weird direction more often, you will see more "weird" humor that some Americans may find dusgusting. Americans, OTOH, tend to prefer running gags, lengthy jokes, and over-the-top shenanigans like you see in sitcoms.

There are some places where humor coincide, such as langauge jokes (like the "koi" carp/love joke), slapstick, and a few other places. And though American comedy uses it less often, both recognize the appeal of "fan service".

Anyway, u probably r a smart person, but we just ain't seen that yet, so sign up and strut ur stuff, then we'll judge if u're a smart person and give u the recognition that u deserve
