Teen Titans, Totaly Spys and that crap is not anime. thats just a cheap attempt to mimic anime. I always figured anime to be only Japanese; hence the other name "japanimation"

Most Japanese anime and manga artists learned from Disney and Warner Brothers (these are always the ones most japanese artists list as influences, since anime didn't exist at all until the 1950's, and didn't truly become a unique style until the late 80's), so, to say Americans should stick to american art is incorrect... japanese anime is based on american comic art, so in a broader sense, anime is a world art (there are a lot of great korean anime artists for example).

That said, most american anime style cartoons (Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Teen Titans, etc) are geared more toward kids than adults... so, obviously the story lines are more simplified and less appealing to those of us who enjoy japanese anime... it's not that americans can't create decent anime style cartoons... it's just that so far there's no audience for it... we don't have prime time adult cartoons in America like they do in Japan, and anime, like everything else, is money-driven... given a market, it would be nicely filled by american anime artists.

Hey, we can only hope that at some point the american anime market will expand, as is has recently in american style manga...

If you want real anime-type art and animation in an American-made cartoon, I'd suggest giving Gold Digger a try. Fred Perry animated his comoc book perfectly in my opinion. Two DVDs out so far, and he's working on the third--and he even has a BGM OST released for the series!
Now that's real American-made anime!!!
