Realistic Mecha and realistic samurai

Post by Musketoon »

When I was a kid I used to play mechwarrior and I guess my love of mechs sprang from there. As a newbie to anime (it has just started to appeal to me)I would ask for anyone to reccomend mecha that involves more land combat than space combat and has a pretense of realism. I have enjoyed evangelion and the 08th MS team (nice and real this one)but am looking for some more to watch.
Moving on to smaurai - are there any animes set in sengoku period, preferably with lots of fights!

Realistic in what way? The mechs have to have a low profile and can hide in the tree line easily?

AT Votoms, the Votoms only stand around 12 to 15 feet tall. They aren't the big monsters you see in more other anime series, and they aren't invincable either. Chiro Cuvie gets a lot of scopedogs shot out from under him the course of the series. It is a cery long series however, about 52 episodes.

Realistic Samurai? Not sure if there is such a thing, the damage a katana can do is almost always over exaggerated.

i got two great animes tyat will appear to both of your fine tasters of aanime

the first is for the mechs, it ia called Dual: parallel trouble adventure, it is a great sseries and is worthy of your attentionj

The next is for your samurai tastes

Samurai champloo is about two samurai and a teenage girl who search for a samurai who smells of sunflowers and leads to alot of blood and great swords
its on cartoon networks adult swim at 12:30 on saturday nights i think it all depends on ur location im on the east coast

And Dual is about a boy named Kazuki who can see giant robots that no one else can. A myserious yet very beautiful and popular girl named mitsuki comes to him from seeing the website that the boy has made of a story from the battles he has seen, she brings him to her house where her father sends him to a parallel universe where the giant robots are real and a war between sanata and rara is going on

he's asking for realistic mecha anime, Dual is like the love child of Evangelion and Tenchi Muyo. Not something I'd call realistic. Try Megazone 23.

Oh yeah, Megazone 23. The mecha are small by even Votom standards and can transform into a motorcycle, but don't be fooled. These things are bigger than the Cyclone from Mospeda.

Patlabor has realistic mecha, maybe a little on the big side but the mechs are done with a very beleivable look to them.

So? Dual is still a good mech show even if it isn't realistic and worth a view even if you're looking for something else lol

That's not the point, he was asking for realistic mecha anime, which Dual doesn't qualify as (Personally, I thought that Dual was very mediocre. Character designs from Tenchi Muyo, Mecha Mesigns from Evangelion, and it is outclassed by many other mecha animes).

And as for realistic mecha Musktoon, you may wish to take a look at SPT Layzner, as it is classified as a Real Robot anime, as opposed to Super Robot anime. I do not know if it is on the internet or not though.

Gasaraki comes to mind. The mecha is very realistic and the plot has a lot of real world politics, starting with
Spoiler
Show
with Mecha in a "desert storm" type war beating the heck out of tanks, then food riots in Japan, evil megacorps, overthrow of the Japanese gov't and near war between the U.S. and Japan.
Warning this show is a very slow starter. I say rent the first three disks and watch the first disk only once to get through it. Then during the second and third disk get sucked into this show that just gets better and better. There is one of the best spoilers I have ever seen in disk three. There is a supernatural side to the storyline, however oddly, it does not effect the quality of the Mecha battles. Definately a thinker.

Blue Gender also comes to mind.

All the best,

Nani?
