It's by the same lady that did InuYasha but not like it at all. I really liked it, any thoughts

It was the first published work of Rumiko to be released in the US. Her first big hit and a few years ago most know work Urusei Yatsura was published and never finished by Viz a short while later. Which is strange as I beleive she wrote Mermaid Forest after Maison Ikkoku. I know it was after UY.

Yes but the anime is new to america, it's not new over all but it was just released here

Actually this is a re-release on DVD. It was released by US Manga Corps back in 1992 on VHS. I know I still have my copy of it.

Oh yes, I liked it. Prefered her Fire Triper story more though, but Mermaid Forest was a fine with a little horror added to it. There are some add ons to the Mermaid Forest story you might want to look for, it's been a while since I've seen them, Mermaid's Scar is by Rumiko as well.

I am also trying to get my hands on the manga, which is proving more difficult then I thought, know anything about that?

It's Viz, they are slow with many things. Mermaid was original printed in the pages of Animerica when it first came out. Sadly Viz also has a bad habit of not finishing manga series, there is a ever growing list of titles they've never finished. Rumiko's original series Urusei Yatsura being among them as well as Area 88, Mai the Psychic Girl, Pixy Junket.

Newer manga fans love Viz for what their releasing now. Older fans like me are P.O.ed at Viz for this bad habit of theirs, I liked Urusei Yatsura, Area 88 and Pixy Junket.
