What is or was the longest running anime series?

Post by car2ie »

I'm just curious. The one I'm really into was only 26 episodes. Cowboy Be-Bop seems to run the same time.

Has anyone seen Samurai 7?
I'm told that's a good one too. Worth buying on DVD?

Thanks,...I get a bit bummed when I get into something and it's either a repeat or a shorter series.

Wrong on both counts, Inuyasha has 167 episodes, and Dragonball, Dragonball Z and Dragonball GT have a total of 509 episodes. The longest Anime is Sazae-San, Originally created in 1969, new episodes are still being made today. In May 2004, the episode count was at 1766, so at this moment, I would say that its total episode count would be in the 2000s. Sazae-San is also known for being the longest animated cartoon series made. Please note that I did not say anime, it is internationally the longest ANIMATED series to have been created. Good luck trying to find it.

Sazae-San is absolutly the correct answer, I think Doremon is the second longest running. So DBZ doesn't even come close.

And I think Inuyasha ended right? Which it's still a few episodes shorter at this point of her first series Urusei Yatsura.

Wrong! :o
I've seen POkemon still running since it first began in 1996 with more than 1,000 episodes. This cartoon will never end. #-o :pirate: :-s

Pokemon hasn't even been running for a decade. It's got a lot of epis yes, but certainly isn't a long running show as the others.

In related news, Doraemon has spawned the most number of movies/TV specials for an anime show, if I recall correctly. I recall it was over 2 dozen. It's quite a cultural icon, for sure.

Zengar and I have told you which is the longest running, why don't you look it up and see? Sazae-san started in 1969, and it was a manga for about a decade before that.

Gundam started in 1979, however it has NOT been running constantly ever since. There are more episodes of Urusei Yatsura than the first 3 Gundam series combined. That would be Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam and ZZ Gundam to all you Seed and Wing fans out there.

Light Angel, learn to read and see Zengar had Sazae-san starting year as 1969 compaired to Pokemon's 1996. Now think, if you were born in 1996 you'd be 10 right? So if you were born in 1969 you would be how old now? Try 37 years old, learn how to count as well.

We've told you all Sazae-san and Doremon are the record holders.

This what I think was the longest:
Sazae-san
Doraemon
Pokemon

I thought it was crayon Shin-chan, cause I heard it's still running on japanese TV's. I don't know if Dragon ball is included. The history of Gundam series is long but it still doesnt' count.
