This information was released, for lack of a better word, at the end of November 2004.

You can't read the article anymore, though.

Very cool info, Kyle. Keep thinking about subscribing to Newtype but have yet to do it. Already spend too much on rentals with an 8-out subscription to Netflix and a 10-out subscription to Anime Takeout.

Of those listed here are the ones I like .... in no partiuclar order. My personal Top 20 is quite a bit different.

Neon Genesis Evangelion
Cowboy Bebop
Inuyasha
Rurouni Kenshin
Robotech
Hellsing
Fushigi Yugi
Vision of Escaflowne
Wolf's Rain

I have noticed that at least half of the anime on that list, has been on, or is still on TV.

That answers why half are popular in the US, but what about the other half?

Pretty much. Which is fine. Still, even if they have been on TV, it is a different experience to watch a disc uncut. I'm sure I wouldn't be an Outlawstar fan otherwise.

I agree. Watching something uncut is better.

it's nice to know that inu-yahsa is third
I felt like a race horse in a world without racetracks or a champion college footballer suddenly confronted by Wall Street and a business suit, his days of glory shrunk to a little gold cup on his mantel with a date engraved on it like a tombstone.

Hmm, it think that's pretty accurate. ^_^ Newtype is a awesome magazine, I'd suscribe if I had the cash. The rating for Love Hina is what I'd think it get, but Initial D should have ranked higher! These are my favorite, also in no order:

Love Hina
Initial D
FLCL
Hellsing
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Inuyasha
Wolf's Rain
Tenchi Muyo!
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Full Metal Panic!
Yes, I'm back. For real this time. I swear it to the high heavens.

The list seems pretty accurate except for NGE, I thought it was highly overrated and had quite a few problems towards the end of the series (the last 2 episodes sucked, and the second half of End of Eva was pretty boring)

You know, I loved NGE ..... up to the last two episodes.....and agree that End of Eva kind of let me down too. It is still a bench mark sereis but I'm not sure what they were ..... or weren't thinking toward the end.

I admit that Eva had some really good points, but for me, the bad outweighed the good. I thought that a lot of the episodes were just about the evas taking on angels, (I accidentally missed 4 episodes by skipping a dvd by mistake and i didn't miss anything plotwise) and the animation, while great in the first half, started to stutter a bit in the second half, and the recycling of clips became more and more apparent. my logic is that Gainax might have spent too much on the first half of the show, and didn't have enough money left to keep the same animation standard. Or maybe i don't like evangalion because I'm just biased against it, I'm not too sure.
