Loveless
Re: Loveless
I'd say it's more BL than yaoi. Soubi and Ritsuka are romantically linked but it never gets sexual because Ritsuka is only twelve and Soubi is... twenty I think.
Whatever the genre Loveless is a manga worth reading. Even non-yaoi fans I know have found the fighter/sacrifice aspect of the plot very interesting if nothing else.
The artwork is amazing too. In my opinion Loveless is a practically perfect manga!

challenge me and i'll accept.battle me and i'll fight fair.run from me and expect sertain death.
Re: Loveless
Yep. Soubi stalks Ritsuka, waits for him outside school and everything.
Although, I'd wouldn't complain if Soubi stalked me. He's got this wonderful psychotic streak in him that's just irresistable, and yet he turns out to be very caring and protective towards Ritsuka...
Sorry, I'm going off on one now...

Re: Loveless
I believe the correct term is "shounen-ai" or, rather, bishounen-ai, as Soubi and Ritsuka are adorable. The manga is an amazing read, and, from what I've heard, it's only six books, so it won't empty your checking account. Only the third is out in America so far, but, really, go out and pick up the first book! It's got an interesting plot line with murder, love, and a seriously attitudinal twelve year old. ^-~
And I think Ritsuka's nuts. Would you complain if a twenty year old guy with long sandy hair and dark blue eyes was stalking you? Much less if he does everything you say. Yeah, Ritsuka's crazy, but he's cute, so we forgive him.
P.S. Vamoose, you have the best siggy I've ever read (*is currently reading Gravi again for the 2367435229th time*) Ryu-chan is so nuts. "B-but Shuichi and I are buddies! Aren't we? Aren't we buddies?!"

Re: Loveless
I certainly wouldn't complain. I WANT a freaky over-protective stalker for christmas but I don't think Santa will be able to bring me one.
Anywho, I still haven't got around to reading the translated version yet. I hear TokyoPop did a good job, and they definitely did Gravi well so maybe I should get my ass in gear.
As for the genre, shounen-ai is probably a better description for Loveless but the phrase isn't generally used in Japan any longer. It now has associations with adult men having a sexual relationship with an adolescent boy which is often abusive and has been replaced by bōizu rabu or Boy's Love.
So I suppose in this case shounen ai is more accurate, but the term is now something of a taboo in the Japanese language so I tend to steer clear of it. I'm not saying that I'm right but that's my take on it.
Oh and thanks for your comment about my sig. It's been like that for over a year now and people rarely ever get it...

Re: Loveless
I know. Ritsuka's an ungrateful little kid. A borderline sex symbol worthy man is following you around, buying you a cell phone, and generally trying to molest you and you complain?! Tsk tsk, bad Ritsuka! Oh, well, I'll put Soubi on my Christmas list anyway, and maybe Santa's feeling generous.Vamoose wrote:I certainly wouldn't complain. Yeah, the translated version actually is really good. I was worried ('cause sometimes they do a bad job,) but it really turned out well. Now, if only they can get Loveless anime out. Hopefully without some of the horrendous dubbing jobs I've heard for a few of my favorite series (Yami no Matsuei! I hate you, Eric Stuart!)
Re: Loveless
I don't know what's going on with the anime at the moment. I'd heard that Loveless was never going to be dubbed and it would just be sold with subtitles as was the case with Sukisyo. And yet I've heard people commenting on dubber's voices. I don't get what's going on? I certainly haven't found a dubbed version, that's for sure.
As for Yami no Matsuei, I couldn't agree more. I mean he was Yugi. YUGI FOR CHRIST'S SAKE. You don't cast the voice of Yugi in Yami no Matsuei!!!!!!
Mirage of Blaze was a little better but I still don't think James Lyon's Naoe was perfect.
