Guy and Kakashi almost every time they meet they try to see who is better, but Kakashi own's evry time XD.

But, who would win in battle?

Personally, I think Kakashi because he kicks ass a lot of times, but then again Tsukiyumi said Kakashi only had fifty where as Gai had fifty-one so I'm not sure now. Lol.

But Gui is very powerful and can open gates, but Kakashi is smart. But if Gui opens his gates and it goes wrong then he will be wide open for Kakashi to attack.

Apparently, you did not see/read when Lee opened gates during the chuunin exams. Gai is already stronger than Lee from the get go.

Gai + Opened chakra gates = Kakashi getting pwned.

He's just too fast and powerful with open chakra gates for Kakashi to be able to do anything.

The Sharingan doesn't work on Gai, during the battle with Itachi and Kisame he explained that he found a way to counter Kakashi's Sharingan, he looks at Kakashi's feet and counters accordingly (never making eye contact) , by doing this he can't be caught by the Sharingan.
Gai is the only one with the speed capabilities to be able to do this.
