I distinctly recall reading an interview of the president of AnimEigo on MAHQ, congradulating him on obtaining the license of the original SDF Macross a while back, because I was very excited about this news. While I do have bootlegs of the original Macross, I have made it an issue to buy the legit form of every bootleg anime I have once I move to the United States. There is no licensed anime in the Philippines, only bootlegs. (I was very disappointed when I saw Aura Battler Dunbine on ADV's website selling for $4 each, since I couldn't get them.) I'll do some research and find out.

DAMMIT!!!!! AnimEigo DID have the Uncut Macross licensed! But Harmony Gold raised a stink about it, and now its been discontinued! This means I won't be able to pick it up when I leave to the US... Very irritating...

Ah, can I consider that as proof Harmoy Gold does want to make beleive there was no Macross series and that their version is the only version?

You might want to hold on to your bootlegs of Macross if that's the case. And pick up some of Macross Zero and Macross 7 while you're at it.

I do not normally support bootlegs or downloading anime, but some times I will make an exception. And I guess I'll make a delayed response to atomicpunk1987's comment about Carl "The Razor" Macek being a God.

He's more like a devil really. Now you can get unedited versions of most anime on DVD. Even some older series like Gatchaman were released in their unedited form. Robotech is just that, edited. Macross , Southern Cross and Mospeda have been edited not just so they could air on TV, but so the stories can fit together. Why pay for an edited anime series?
