I don't mind when they add lib stuff, I just hate whenever they totally go off the original dialouge. It's true that some of the Japanese dialouge can't be translated, or wouldn't appeal to American audiences, but the stuff in, say Pokemon, was totally dumbed down and is just a form of advertisment.

SPC actually did a good job though. I didnt mind that dub job ^__^

What about shows like Saiyuki, FLCL, Excel Saga, Full Metal Panic, Full Metal Alchemist, Yuu Yuu Hakusho, Kenshin... I think they are all excellently done.

Pretty much the 'Destroyer of Anime' is 4Kids, as they market the shows for kids, and usually get ahold of some pretty non-kiddie shows. So the aftermath usually means that horrible VAs are aquired, because kids dont care about what the characters sound like. They're main concern is pretty colors and cute glompy creatures.

The only good 4Kids dub is, yes, I know, Pokemon. If you watch the Japanese version, the VAs sound pretty close to the ones casted in the US.

didn't I already say that 4kids kills anime? As of yet I haven't found another dub as bad as those done by the 4kids crew and Naruto is pretty bad..unless you can get by the \"believe it\" then it's actually fairly close..oh and thunder blade the english name for the chidori I wonder what Rasingen will be called oh werll so long as it isn't the \"believe it\" I'll be happy

I didn't think 'Dattebayo!' had any translation? I guess 'believe it' would have to suffice in that case.

Dattebayo means nothing, really. Although, 'believe it' actually sounds very funny when timed right... XD

Edit: What's wrong with the quote thing?!?

I dunno, personally I think it sounds horribly lame and childish (Well, I guess it does fit with Narutos personality). I just wished they would have picked something a little more dramatic and 'fight-worthy.'

The use of "believe it" is annoying whenever I hear it. Then again, I can't think of anything else that'll fit the mouth.

What about 'Try It!' or 'Bring It!,' something that shows Naruto's hardass side. It always seems like that'd fit, considering it's usually right before a fight scene or when Narutos angry. 'Believe it' just sounds so...edited.

I've seen Goldenboy both subbed and dubbed. The dub actually made me laugh out loud many times, Kintaro's voice is just so absurd. The sub version did nothing for me, just like any subbed anime. Comedy, especially in dialogue, is something that is very fragile. Punchlines have to be delivered at just the right time and they have to sound just right. Comedy has its own rhythm.

If you went and saw your favorite comedian, but he spoke in Japanese and you got to read his jokes in subtitles, would you even laugh? No, you might smile, but probably just out of politeness. It would be embarrassing and not very funny.

This is why I prefer dubs over subs, granted the dubs are good. Dubbing makes the anime actually make sense to me from a cultural perspective. When Japanese people watch anime, they aren't watching them subbed, but dubbed. The anime was written and dubbed for them in their own language. To think that, as an American, I should be watching anime subbed, makes no logical sense. That's like buying a book or manga that has the original Japanese words in it with subtitles crammed in there, which brings me to another point...

Subtitles usually draw me away from being immersed in the anime. When you watch any film in English, you get immersed in the characters and world of the movie. There is no "interface" between you and the film world. With subtitles, there is a veil thrown over the film that you have to constantly interface with. It is subconscious, but it's there and it takes away from the feeling of being completely immersed in the fictional world, even though most people don't know or realize it.

Of course, most of the anime I watch is subtitled because I have no choice. There are series I want to see and most of them haven’t been dubbed yet.

My perfect world is where all anime is dubbed and dubbed well.

There are some dubs that are TERRIBLE and some that are great. Anything by 4Kids is ugh(gets ready to puke) I watch the subbed versions and they're pretty good but when I see the 4kids version it completely ruins the series (I still like One Piece but not nearly as much after seeing the 4Kids version   ) Naruto's dub aint great either only because of the "Bring it" and dont get me started on the old speed racer (hahaha!). However some animes have great dubs. Cowboy Bebop and s-CRY-ed to name a few. DBZ's American dub is actually a huge improvement over the sub (mainly because Goku has such a high pitched, squeaky voice even as an adult on the Japanese version)

I hate dubs cause the voices really suck and they can't pronounce the names properly. Although another person might say differently. Let's just say that different people have different opinion.
