japanese symbols

It's not nearly as complex as English, but as usual we find ways to screw it up.

Kanji is beautiful. I like how they have visual meaning.

kanji is very hard to learn...i can't say the same thing about hiragana or katakana
it takes you 3 days to learn hiragana...trust me... :)

You can start learning your kana at http://www.kanachart.com. It probably won't take you three days, but it won't take long if you keep practicing at it.

Kanji will take a lot longer to learn. The required amount you must know to be considered literate is 1,945 characters. Your best bet is to pick up a book on kanji that will teach you all the readings and compound words as you go along. The book "Kanji & Kana" by Mark Spahn and Wolfgang Hadamitzky is a good choice.
