I am not sure of the order of RK, or all the details either.
But the main reason is Cartoon Network is a children's channel, and children aren't to be exposed to such ideas in the US. They also fear that religious contexts would cause problems amongst parents, and religious faiths.
In the US, the idea isn't to offend anyone. Before you say there are shows that offend/make-fun-of people, those shows are only allowed to be on the air as long as they offend everyone, and leave no group untouched. If you offend everyone, then it is allowed. If not, too bad.

Cartoon Network in england is totally shite nowadays. They show no anime at all, sadly.

I see, thanks. (although the CN here does show unedited anime as well... I guess the filipino government doesn't really care about what children watch). and smileycute_kagome, yes Studio 23 used to show Rurouni Kenshin, but they stopped a while back. Now it's mostly AXN (an action channel) that shows Kenshin.
