I think Gmae music is very under rated, specaily here in the Uk, I mean anime is just becoming good, but game music, nothing, you have to either download it, or buy it off ebay, and it becomes exspensive, I don't know why it is like this in the UK, I just blame the EU >.<

I love game music especially kingdom Hearts Simple and clean song at the beginning and end.

I can actually play some songs from videogames on the keyboard. And I think that the music from the original Sonic games rocks!

The original sonic music was good and fun to listen to. So was streets of rage.

Its the classics that have great music but so do modern games like FF and Max Payne surprised me...

I like the lower Torvus music from Metroid Prime 2 it really adds to the creepy feeling of that part of the level(it was there as a tomb so it's a creepy place already).

yay, some one likes Grandia 2 !! i love that game i played it when it was on Dreamcast...anywho about our conversation, i believe that RPG's do have the best mood music in their games, like FF series, Grandia 2, Star Ocean the Second Story and many others. but...yesh...music in video games adds emphasis and i'd go crazy if it was just sound effects all the time!!!

I don't think that the music is underrated per se...but the musical tastes of the programmers might not match that of the audience.
One has to keep in mind that any music on a game is going to be something the programmers will be listening to--a lot. So it had better be something they like.
I still remember the tale about the jazzy techno from Ballblazer (from Lucasfilm--yes, they do more than Star Wars). Seems that the original tune was popular...too popular. All the cubicles were playing it...and all the playings were out of sync with each other.
This drove one programmer over the edge. He inserted a randomizer into the music program as a way of getting back at the music...and it proved so popular it was kept in the final version of the game.

Personally, my favorite videogame music comes from Twisted Metal and its many clones...from the original disc's haunting "Drop Dead" to the third disc's "Microwaved" to even the disturbing music video for "Paint It Black" on the 5th disc. And from the 70's style music on the Vigilante 8 discs to the Might Might Bosstones on Rogue Trip to even the rants of "Stu Pickle" on GTA clone Roadkill...I think the programmers know what they're doing when it comes to music.

Hey, I'm an old-school gamer. I remember the jaunty tune from Elevator Action...and the classic "Peter Gunn" riffs on Spy Hunter. Yeah, the programmers know that the sounds are important. And they're doing a great job still, in this gamer's humble opinion. :!:
