Not bad. Never occurred to me. Dollnaez would be good, especially with his understated British of humor. As for the driver, I'm focusing on Natsumi. Do you have a quote that comments on her driving (like Miyuki yelling or something)?

I am sorry, but I know very little about You're Under Arrest.
What I do know is that Natsumi is willing to chase down anyone until she breaks what she is driving. She will cut through alleys, drive up and down stairs, and drive right over the edge of a cliff if she has too. Natsumi is rather devoted to pursuing her "target," and will catch them at all costs.
As for Miyuki, she is capable of keeping up with Natsumi during a chase.
For a rather surprising bit of trivia, Natsumi, and Miyuki have a couple cameo appearances in Full Metal Panic Fumoffu, chasing Sousuke and Chidori. Natsumi actually has a short fight scene with Sousuke in one episode, and is able to hold her own.
What about Sousuke from Full Metal Panic for a character who keeps their cool under fire? He doesn't seem to be fazed by events, and problems that occur around him.

I'll think about it, if I can find any suitable quotes concerning him. These cards need just the right flavor to them.
Sousuke is just weird. He's too militaristic, so I'm making an Enchantment card with his mug on it ("Student Soldier") and probably work Vigilance and flying block into it.
I'll leave Dollneaz for "Performance Under Pressure", an Instant which I think should let you block a creature that has any specialized kind of "unblockable" ability (ie. horsemanship, shadow, flying).

Here is a quote I found directed at Natsumi by the police chief. "And now, the question. How many moving violations did you commit?"
For student soldier, I think vigilance is a good choice. I am assuming that it will be an enchant creature card.
Would performance under pressure bypass something like, can't be blocked by more than one creature, or can't be blocked by fewer than 2 creatures?

re: If you were to make MtG cards based on anime...
Sounds interesting, but trying to put such a powerful block ability into words is proving difficult. Still, having the ability to cancel blocking rules for a creature is powerful and appropriate for the card's name. How does this description sound?
Target creature loses all abilities and effects that involve blocking (ie. flying, shadow, can't be blocked by white creatures).
I think I'll set the cost at BBB (I wanted three of one color since it has a pretty general effect, but you're right; black would probably be better for this).
PS. Sorry. Misread that rule on phasing. While I was reading up on a more-updated guide (to get more specific types; which I've updated on the cards), I got the specific rule.

Why white? How about, target creature loses all abilities and affects that involves blocking.
Also, this may be nit picking, but phasing isn't associated with blocking.
What about a card about the anime cry baby? Something like, tap one creature you control, and tap target creature; maybe.

re: If you were to make MtG cards based on anime...
Here's some great ideas for M:tG cards based on something from anime:
IP7--enchant world
5BB
You choose targets for all spells and abilities targeting graveyards. (This includes your opponents' graveyards.)
K.I.D.S. Array--legendary artifact
8
Comes into play tapped.
Tap: destroy all creatures; they can't be regenerated.
Tap, sacrifice K.I.D.S. Array: choose target creature. Destroy all other creatures; they can't be regenerated. Put X +1/+1 counters on target creature, where X is the number of creatures destroyed by K.I.D.S. Array.
Will of the Macrocosm--legendary spirit
4WW, 5/5
Will of the Macrocosm cannot attack or block.
Tap, hiccup: return all creatures to play that were sent to the graveyard this turn. May only use this ability at end of turn.
Strikeman--legendary human vigilante
2RW, 3/3
Super-haste, first strike. If Strikeman would send a creature to the graveyard, instead tap that creature. Creatures tapped by Strikeman don't become untapped until Strikeman leaves play.
If a white creature with toughness greater than Strikeman's power enters play, return Strikeman to owner's hand.
Fantoma--enchantment
1UU, Kicker 1BB
Creatures do no combat damage to players. If kicker is paid, players lose 1 life for each creature they control that is sent to the graveyard during combat.
Excel Excel--legendary human rebel
2BBW, 3/3
Morph 2RR, Ninjitsu 2WWB. If Excel Excel attacks, she gets -2/-2 until end of combat. If Excel Excel is in the graveyard, her owner can discard 2 cards during upkeep to return her to play or pay 5 to shuffle her into his library.
Agent Hyatt--legendary alien rebel
2BBU, 1/1
If Agent Hyatt is in play at end of turn, bury her. If Hyatt is in the graveyard at the beginning of upkeep, put her into play. If Excel Excel is not in play, Agent Hyatt has haste.
Yall can come up with appropriate flavor text. But for my last one for today, I even have the flavor text...
Steve--legendary human ...cameraman (yeah, let's go with that)
1UU
If there is a land in play that produces blue mana while Steve is in play, Steve gets +1/+1 for each creature card in play with a woman in the picture.
"Oh man...upside-down Mount Fuji shots!"
Is it obvious that I love playing M:tG as much as I like anime?

Can you think up any land, sorcery, and instant cards? Creatures are easy, the other stuff is hard. And, please try to think up appropriate flavor text for your ideas. It just helps WhoWantsToKnow when the cards are created.
Here is an idea.
Flagoon, the Holy Tree
Legendary Land
Comes into play tapped. You may choose not to untap Flagoon.
Tap: Add 1 green, and 1 white to your mana pool.
Tap: Remove target creature from the game. That creature stays removed from the game as long as Flagoon is tapped.
(I will get back to you on the flavor text)

re: If you were to make MtG cards based on anime...
First, slight correction:
Fantoma would be too powerful a game-breaker having the second ability as a kicker.
Instead...:
Fantoma--enchantment
1BU
Creatures do no combat damage to players.
Threshold--If a creature is sent to the graveyard from play, its controller loses 1 life.
Now onto new card ideas!
Weapons control panel--artifact
6
1, tap: flip a coin. If you win the flip, tap all of target opponent's creatures. If you lose the flip, lose 1 life.
"That was an accident, Senior."
"I'd really like to believe that."--Hyatt and Excel
Puu-chuu--puu-chuu
R, 1/2
If damaged, Puuchuu becomes a black creature until end of turn.
"Puuuu-chuuuuu!"
Puu-chuu Queen--legendary puu-chuu
5RRR, 7/7
3R, tap: remove target creature from play. Put a red Puu-chuu token into play; it has target creature's Power and Toughness. If token leaves play, return creature to play under its owner's control. Cannot target puu-chuus with this ability.
Nabeshin's car--artifact
6
3, tap: target creature gains flying. Sacrifice that creature and Nabeshin's car at end of turn.
"Oh man! The dealership said it would really fly!"
And finally...
Yamamoto's coach--legendary human ...coach (yeah, we'll go with that)
3WW, 2/2
If any creature card with a picture of a woman on it becomes tapped, tap Yamamoto's coach unless you pay 5.
"Uh...coach? What are you doing?"--Yamamoto
All for now!

re: If you were to make MtG cards based on anime...
You should know that the inspiration for my thread was in fact a blog where someone actually made a number of Excel Saga cards. I'm trying to make the lineup more diverse. Still, Nabeshin's Car sounds cool enough to make an exception. But the effect cost is too high. Can you think of other effects the car could have, since there's already a flying-enabling artifact?
Addendum: I think I have something. Make a simple flying effect 1 and tap, but make the sacrifice effect you have 2 and tap and also give +3/+3, to give the effect more punch.
PS. I'll need to locate pictures for the car and for Flagoon, the Holy Tree (lots of Sylphiel pictures, but the only pic I've found of the tree has Sylphiel superimposed).

Howdy, WhoWantsToKnow! (Weird username...but diversity's a good thing....)
Sorry about not including flavor text for my cards. I am being diverse. Here, let me redo the cards with appropriate flavor text.
IP7--enchant world
5BB
You choose the targets of all spells and abilities affecting graveyards.
Internet Protocol 7 is the next stage. Eiri created it as his world; it became his tomb.
(from Serial Experiments: Lain)
K.I.D.S. Array--legendary artifact
8
Comes into play tapped.
Tap: destroy all creatures. They can't be regenerated.
Tap, sacrifice K.I.D.S. Array: Choose target creature. Destroy all other creatures; they can't be regenerated. Put X +1/+1 counters in play where X equals the number of creatures destroyed by K.I.D.S. Array.
"Didn't you think of the children?"
"No, we were too busy to think about that."--Lain and Hodgeson
(from Serial Experiments: Lain)
Fantoma--enchantment
1BU
Creatures do not combat damage to players.
Threshold: when a creature goes to the graveyard during combat, its controller loses 1 life.
"Fantoma. It's this new game on the Wired, but there's this glitch in the program that lets people go onto the Wired..."--JJ the DJ, to Lain.
(from Serial Experiments: Lain)
Strikeman--legendary human vigilante
2RW, 3/3
Super-haste, first strike. If Strike would send a creature to the graveyard, instead tap that creature. That creature can't untap as long as Strikeman is in play.
If a white creature with toughness greater than Strikeman's power comes into play, return Strikeman to its owner's hand.
"Looks like Strikeman's struck again..."--Off. Miyuki Kobayakawa, to her partner.
(From You're Under Arrest)
And Steve and Yamamoto's coach are from Colorful.
What I'm trying to do is come up with M:tG idea where the cards use M:tG rules and abilities to simulate what the characters, machines, and everything else do in the actual animes. That's why I decided on what I did for Nabeshin's car. The first time he used it to fly, the car came apart in midair.
Likewise...IP7 is Masami Eiri's virtual world where he stores the souls of those he killed;
the K.I.D.S. Array can be used to either slay many at once or to force others to use their power (even at the cost of their own lives) to make one of their own have greater power than all of them together;
Fantoma is a MMOG in SEL that actually sends its players into a children's game--and has the two groups virtually fighting to the death, with the virtual actions having real-world consequences;
Strikeman is a lunatic of a vigilante who embarrasses minor wrongdoers but always escapes before the cops arrive;
Steve is a voyeur who uses water surfaces to get panty shots of girls in short skirts standing nearby;
and Yamamoto's coach is a man who tries to look upon the girls he teaches and coaches as his students...but can't help getting a peek at their undergarments when they stretch or bend down or jump while wearing a loose shirt...you get the idea.
I'm trying to simulate the experience within the M:tG rules framework. Thus, my card ideas. Since Excel Excel can appear out of nowhere, can't fight worth a darn, and is more trouble than she's worth to bring back...thus my card idea for her.
As Hyatt always dies and comes back to life in each episode, and as she actually gets things done as long as she doesn't have to follow Excel's leadership, hence the idea for her card.
Since the puu-chuus gain golgo 13's face when damaged (and he's an assassin--a type/title almost exclusively black's domain, with 3 exceptions), ...you get the idea.
And the puu-chuu queen's ability simulates what she did in the one episode she appeared.
And for the control panel...who can forget the unlabeled buttons and Excel's 7 Hyatt's guesswork on what the buttons did? And I quote:"We shall squeeze probability into a ball, and shoot from ze hip."
(Well, it makes good flavor text, right?)
See, we don't want to fall into the trap of making these things and creatures too powerful
.
These are the items and characters from comedies (concerning Strikeman and the Excel Saga and Colorful ideas). They're supposed to be incompetent.
Thus, cards based on them should similarly be ...Unglued-ish (or maybe Unhinged-ish nowadays).
They should be useless except in a fun setting.
As for the ideas from SEL...well, that's a serious anime. Thus, those card ideas are more powerful and more serious.
All I'm saying is that we have to tailor the card idea to the type of anime. I wouldn't expect a Mink card to be powerful or serious, since Dragon Half isn't a serious anime.
But...for example again, SEL...the cards should be serious. Like:
Club Cyberia--legendary land
Tap: add 2 to your mana pool. This mana can only be used to pay for artifacts or the abilities of artifacts.
6, tap: everyone reveal their hands. Choose a nonland card in each hand. Remove the chosen cards from the game. Search all libraries and graveyards to remove all duplicates of said cards from the game.
That duplicates what happened in the anime...and as it's a serious anime, its effect is serious as well.
But all in all, this is a fun exercise! I'm just using 4 of my favorite anime for inspiration. ...guess that means I should watch more anime, huh?

I don't think you need to defend your ideas to WhoWantsToKnow. He seems to be the anime guru around here.
Don't worry about making the cards too powerful. A few of my ideas were too powerful or too weak, and we worked around it, and balanced the ideas.
To WhoWantsToKnow, I will try to get a good screencapture over the weekend, and send it to you.

re: If you were to make MtG cards based on anime...
Hmm...if Nabeshin's Car only works once, perhaps it would be best made an Instant with the latter effect I've mentioned its effect (we'll make its cost 3W).
KIDS Array's effects probably need higher costs to make them fairer (FYI, I look to the Gatherer site to look for similar cards to help me judge fairness). We could either raise the effect cost...or give it Echo (basically giving it an 8 upkeep cost).
Fantoma's a good one. I put it in as is (will check on costs later).
Can we make Strikeman a single color? I have a lot of multicolor cards already. Maybe 2RR instead. And I'll just give him Haste. Super Haste is a joke effect from Unglued (let's stick to by-the-book effects).
PS. Could you find the speaker of that IP7 quote?
PSS. If you can locate or pass along pictures concerning these ideas you have, I would appreciate it also.

re: If you were to make MtG cards based on anime...
Howdy again. The darkdriver's returned to this stop for a little more discussion.
First of all...Strikeman. That was the point of giving him "super-haste". If you've ever seen the anime, you know that Strikeman is a silly, silly character. Thus, giving him a silly ability based on fast attacks works well for him. Indeed, making Strikeman into a serious character would ruin the effect.
We're talking about a man in a mask and cape and full baseball uniform who dumps trash cans on litterbugs and ties flashers to light poles, a guy who gives his motorcycle a long, long name--one so long he can't say it more than once in any encounter, since he forgets parts of it each time.
One of his best lines is "I'm oblivious to your point,"--which, in the context of the scene where he (as Santaman) is confronted by Miyuki & Natsumi, shows both his cluelessness and his bombastity.
To give such a character something like haste (a serious ability) would defeat the point.
As for his colors, I made him red & white to showcase his aggressiveness and his true harmlessness. But maybe he can be red, but becomes white when tapped. A color-change ability would work well for him. but I want to keep the white for him in some way because he is benevolent in his own silly way.
(Actually, I'd be willing to make him a pure white creature...but as there's only one white creature with an immunity to summoning sickness, and it's a gold card, I figured I'd make Strikeman a gold card also.)
As for the K.I.D.S. Array...I'd be willing to go with a limitation like "Can only use this ability as a sorcery,"--better yet:
"x, tap: destroy target creature in play. It can't be regenerated. Put a counter on K.I.D.S.
X is the number of counters on K.I.D.S. Array."
Now this does simulate the ability in the anime, since Eiri only used it sparingly, and when he did, he worried about it being detected by 'daring Lain'.
As for the IP7 quote, I came up with that one myself. I couldn't think of an IP7 remark from the anime that really captured what IP7 was, so I made one myself.
What do you think abotu Steve and Yamamoto's coach?
To give such a character something like haste (a serious ability) would defeat the point.

re: If you were to make MtG cards based on anime...
Sorry. It's just that I find these "Un" effects to be a little too far off the beam, especially "super haste" since it really doesn't make sense in regulation (in case you haven't noticed, I'm trying to make them as close to regulation as I can). There may be another way to make a "silly" effect that's within the normal rules.
The other effects are pretty good while still demonstrating his general futility. I mean, he doesn't have to be "Unglued" silly. Not being able to actually destroy any creatures and automatically bouncing when a tough white is summoned (maybe if we lower his toughness so more whites trigger the bounce) makes him a generally "lame" card, just as he's a lame character, although (like in the anime) he does have his quirks.
BTW, got a picture of him?

re: If you were to make MtG cards based on anime...
On to other matters. A set just isn't a set without land cards. We might as well make other triple-mana land cards to go along with Flooded Underground Base (formerly Flooded ACROSS Base; changed it so it's no longer legendary). Can you think of scenarios or locations that make you think "way too much", so I can create similar cards for white, green, red, and black (the idea is that it comes in tapped and it takes three turns to untap, but you get three mana when you do tap). I'm looking for either exaggerated environments (like the Base idea I used for blue) or perhaps the element where you least expect it, like in a closet or in the backyard. And I wish to avoid specifics since I don't want the lands to be Legendary.
PS. If I were to make Mabase City (from FLCL) into a legendary land, what do you think it should do? And what color? Both of them are a little hard for me to come up with, since on the one side it's supposed to be ordinary but OTOH what happens in the series is anything but.
