We can assume she's dead from when Kakashi told Sakuke that his special people had already been killed, but I don't think they ever said how or when.

You got the wrong person, Onizuka. That's Kin, not Rin. Kin did die, but we don't know about Rin. It's like cuzman said earlier: Kakashi said everyone close to him has died and we assume that Rin was someone close to him.

Hmmm... I really can't confirm that Rin is really dead, but on Wikipedia it states that she is Deceased , and normally Wikipedia isn't wrong.
My own opinion is she is dead, but in the Manga and Anime Kakashi says that all the people close to him are dead, as many people said before me.
So lets assume that Rin is dead until either Rin is appeared alive or Kakashi finds out how his former comrade died.
So all we can do is wait...

um...i seem to remember in one EP kakashi going to see obitos grave and there was a 3 man anbu squad there before him, the leader of which was a purple hairs girl who was also there to see obito, thouhg, as far as i remember, her name was never given. so that may have been rin.

The brown haired one is rin(I know uchia is spelled wrong deal with it) and it is yet to be stated that people can dye thier hair in the naruto world and as stated again and again everyone close to kakashi is dead(as said by him to Sauske) but he could be lying if you assume naruto and co. are close to him in any case we're better off just sitting and waiting..no matter how impatient we are
