Compared to anime, life is empty and cold

Post by lacrimi_congerii »

I am a newcomer to anime. I have seen all of Evangelion, am close to finishing Fruits Basket, and have seen episodes here and there of a few other shows, such as FMA and Princess Tutu.

It is those first two shows which have filled me with this inescapable feeling, this incredible yearning. How can real life compare to these beautifully-drawn worlds of eternally young characters, where even the very bad things which happen pulse with transcendence? My words can't adequately describe the way anime makes me feel. I look at someone like Kyo (from Basket), someone so incredibly attractive, and then I look at my own real flesh and I realize that by the end of my life it will have sagged and my organs will be failing. I realize that art will outlive its creators, and that life is not art, and we will all be dust while the characters and stories I am watching today will quite possibly endure, a la the works of authors from five hundred and a thousand years ago, long after I am dust. Dust! While Kyo will drive sexily on, his story viewed by thousands and thousands of people over years, decades, maybe even centuries -- all that will be left of me will be the atoms which composed my body, dispersed into who-knows-what new matter!

And even while I live, the world will always be messy, will always be full of hatred and pain -- and unlike anime, unlike fiction in general, there is no overarching story, no point, no purpose! There is only the coldness of being alone, of trying to communicate with others through imperfect media yet ultimately never being fully understood; for it is impossible to convey depth of feeling, the nonverbal nature of deepest thought! As we grope forever in the darkness, anime will remain a beacon, so gorgeous and heart-affecting that it is painful to watch, painted in broad and luminous strokes and radiating truth that is too perfect to be real!

... Anime is just a story made to entertain... people take it too far and make it an obsession and lifestyle...

and sometimes it's there to teach a lesson. i'll use examples suck as FB

FB is about a girl who works hard and is almost never sad, it's not that she's alwayse happy it's just that she has the streangth to go on in life with a smile no matter what and because of that she met kind people that made her life more livable and kept her company. people can learn from Tohru her and become inspired to get through anything with a smile on their face

you can also learn from Shows like Tengen Tenpun Gurren Lagan, although it is carzy and unreal face off it gives a lesson throughout the earlier arc of the series: "never say anything is impossible and move toward your goals" aka "believe in yourself and you can do it"

one can wish that life is like anime but it will never happen.so make the best of your life and use the lessons you gain from watching anime to better yourself and your life. life is unfair and boring we all know that, if you want to get rid of that do something with your life instead of just sitting there

Dearest lacrimi yes anime life seems perfect sometimes but instead of figuring out how to make your life more like an anime's life, foccus on how to make life out of your life.Anime is pure fiction but in reality you have to live by as you are which is being a human. As El said anime inspires us and gives us lessons, why don't you apply those lessons you learned in real life.that's all, peace.

anime can be real, IE, based on real events. i believe Grave Of The Fire Flies is based on real WW1/WW2 event. and some base themselves in feudal japan, a real era, with some getting events right and dramatizing them for anime. Samurai Deeper Kyo is a good example of this.

while the stories portrayed are purely fiction, some of the events are real. ^_^ but, as everyone before me has said, anime is soley for the funsies. go outside and live a little.

When i was kid i thought anime was real, but it wasn't i just had a extremley over-active imaginnation. As i got older i started having this dreams about a sertan anime that my mind some how made up. so every dream i had i noted it down on paper. and then about 3 or 4 years of getting the same dream about the same people and palce, each dream i had was like a episode to a anime. so i made a story and a animetion.

In the end i become a HUGE fan of my own anime, i called it Planet Delta.

I made a stroy and every thing. i drew the characters too.

Thats why being an artist holds a lot of power, The artis is able to create worlds and many many characters, weather beasties, human or any other race or breed of characters they are able to do it. Of course it all depends on your skillz.

I love creating, drawing whatever the client or myself wants... So much freedom. You people go nutz over a series that would not be there without the help of talented artist, concept artist/character development artists. They are the ones who help the world come alive. :pirate:

Nice. ANIME IS NOT REAL. These are the kind of people that scare off other people away from anime. Look, it seems like this person has much deeper issues than just wanting to become a drawing from a foreign country. I think you need a therapist. Seriously. It seems that there really is something wrong in your life, please go seek help. Your thinking is quite disturbing and unnatural. lacrimi_congerii, seek help. If it weren't anime, then I'm sure you'd try to seek something else to fill some void in your life. You can't do it with a bunch of cartoons. It's almost as bad as with some controlled substance and can become as destructive. The Internet is not a good place to look for help. I suggest somewhere near home. Please, before it's too late.
Please don't call me an otaku, I find that to be an insult.
