The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning
Overplay Review

Welcome to the overplay review of the Spyro Trilogy! As I bring in our first game, allow me some of your patience.

Starting off, the game controls. Like in the original Spyro games that came out with the first Playstation, you would have the Right Analog to turn Spyro's head, and look around. This is sometimes the most overlooked feature, as those that played the Spyro Trilogy further to the latest game, you'll find you cannot really look around at all. The game controls are fairly good, considering you have the two buttons to activate the element attacks within reach of your thumb, though the Fury attack, I've found with a problem. You know you have a happy-trigger finger when you're trying to fight through enemies and then your finger over the R2 button just-so-happens to press the button and activate your ultimate attack, WHICH you wanted to save for a bigger and tougher fight. The X button as the ability to jump and glide, definitely something that carried on from the original Spyro, which I'm happy to say that I was grateful for. If it was the Triangle or something else, it'll be some trouble for me to train my mind to use that instead of the X.

To the game graphics. I can say that the graphics are fairly well-made, the effects of the backgrounds well-suited and not flat, like some games and anime would look. The character designs is very well-put, Spyro and Sparx with a new look to them and that of the guardian dragons is something different, though to some/many people out there, it's a cliche of something out of somewhere else. The enemies is definitely something odd yet familiar, the apes versus the dragons. Kinda like mammals versus reptiles. Different costumes in different areas for the enemies leaves out the boredom of kicking arse with Spyro's melee attacks and element power. Just like it was with the original Spyro games, it has a little bit of creativity and not just same-old, same-old.

Now to the game plot; It's definitely something to wrap your mind around. Not many people would have thought that the color purple meant something important, but somehow, it fits Spyro just right. Growing up in the marshes with Sparx, I can understand that Spyro would have thought himself as a dragonfly - with no one to tell him differently, it's pretty plausible. With the arrival of the apes as he and Sparx were playing, it started Spyro's journey to discover what he truely is. Something far more than he or his 'brother' Sparx would have expected. In the travels, he meets one of the guardians, Ignitus, who had sent Spyro as an egg down the river to the marshes to save him from being destroyed in the attack on the temple. The Year of the Dragon (now why does that sound familiar? Lol) is the year that the purple dragon was supposed to be born... and unfortantly, the Dark Master heard of the prophecies as well. This is where Spyro's true journey begins...

The overall review of this game is a pretty good possiblity of three and a half stars out of five, or four out of five, for the graphics and the game plot. The negetivity for serious Spyro gameplayers is that it doesn't last long for you. It takes me a mere day to play it and defeat it, but yet, I return to the game and play it over and over. It's a great game to play, as a roleplayer and a Spyro fan, but some may find that they would stick to the original Spyro, because some can't find the remixes better than the originals.


Everyone has their own views and opinions, so I would like to respectfully say that this is only an review from one opinion. This is not the absolute review of this game and I don't claim the Spyro Trilogy to be the absolute greatest nor the stupidist thing there ever was made. Are there any good Spyro games on DS? I ask because I know they are cheap. Generally when games get cheap around here it means they get bad reviews...but I dunno I mean Spyro is kinda popular i think.

There isn't, I'm afraid. I can honestly say, though, that the games of Spyro that appeared on GBA... JUST DON'T PLAY THEM. I can't even handle those games, for it lacked of all that made Spyro special. Those games didn't even had a good story plotline...

Spyro isn't absolute crap. Its a classic, and an overall good game. Well, the ones on PS. Haven't played any on any other system.

I remember Spyro. One of my favorite dragons. But I stopped playing them after Spyro 3. I heard Sparx can talk now. I think that's stupid.

I like and will only and forever like the original Playstation Spyro games. Spyro, Ripto's rage, and that other one that came out on Playstation. The other games that I've played so far, that came out on Playstation 2 are crap. You're not as free as you were in the first games.
