Nami and another girl (can't remember her name) were orphaned in a war, and a female marine (her name was messed up in my subtitles) took both of them in as her adopted children. Later on in life,a group of mermen came and attacked/enslaved her village. Her mother tried to fight back with her rifle, but was captured and executed in front of Nami and her sister's eyes. After that, Nami has been stealing treasures for 8 years, just so that she could buy the village back from the mermen and set her friends and neighbors free from their tyrannical reign.

I haven't seen those episodes yet, but I still don't like her.

You'll grow to like her. I disliked her during the first half of the Merman arc, but afterwards she became my fav. character. You should see what she does to herself just to help/protect her friends. At one point, she ends up badly injuring her hand just to protect Ussop

She stabbed herself with a dagger, and made it seem like she killed Ussop, (to fool the enemies) and then she knocked him into the water so that he could swim to safety

This is in the anime.

Nami knows how to Navigate. And Luvic need one because neather him or Solo know how to navigate.
So shes a very important part of the crew. With out her they would be lost in the sea for who knows for how long.
