What does "Signature Series" mean as it pertains to anime DVDs? I see that the box says that on the top but don't otherwise know anything about it. I've seen this on multiple DVDs but here's one for Serial Experiments Lain:

If you'll notice it's only ADV that only releases the "Signature Series" It's a marketing scheme to try and generate more sale for that title. At least that's my take on it.
Truthfully instead of trying to sell it like that, after the real fans of the series have bought the series in individual DVD, they should just sell it in the collected box. Odds are any one that wanted the series when it first came out has bought it already, with the exception of newbies.
