Is there any anime about horse racing? Posted Oct 14, 2022
When it comes to anime series, there is a huge selection of different categories from fighting (which is most common) to science fiction, games, and even racing.
However, even though there is a bunch of racing anime series, we are interested in a specific niche, which is horse racing. Surely you will not find any of the Twinspires contenders of the Breeders Cup, but these anime series make a good job of mimicking the essence of the sport.
Horse racing is one of the oldest sports in the world that dates back thousands of years. Even though the first traces of professional horse racing come from the United Kingdom, horse racing now is quite spread covering all continents, even Asia, where amine series are most popular.
Since horses have a big impact on our progression through history and they’ve left a mark on humans as creatures, surely there must be an anime series that covers horse racing.
Horse Racing in Anime
Fanfare of Adolescence
The latest anime series that caused a big reaction from the public is Fanfare of Adolescence, which is the only anime series that involves professional horse racing. This is a competitive anime series that involves a three-year racing academy that trains boys to become professional jockeys.
The academy principles for becoming a jockey are pretty tough. Characters must not only pass an academic test but also a fitness and physical test as well.
This is a TV series that is centered around 15-year-old boys, and it was released in April this year. All the characters in the show have different nationalities, which adds diversity to the show, and it involves a lot of horse racing and training.
Uma Musume
One of the closest anime series to horse racing is Uma Musume, which is a racing series that has an unusual twist. However, apart from the strange twist that you shouldn’t let distract you, Uma Musume actually tells a good story of horse racing athletes for the thrill of victory
The main character represents popular racehorses from Japanese horse racing history. This means that there is no Secretariat, Seabiscuit, or Seattle Slew which are more popular names for the western horse racing community.
The Uma Musume is very similar to Kemono Friends, which involves cute furry girl anime series based on a video game franchise.
It is a concept of horse racing, that involves girls racing around the track. The series also includes a lot of drama, rivalries, training, and managing in order to get to the top.
Silver Spoon
Even though these anime series are not based specifically around horse racing, they still have many elements that horse racing enthusiasts would love. Silver Spoon is about raising animals, farm life, and horses play a really important role.
In fact, horses are at the center of attention, and we can also see competitiveness and a bit of racing.
The most popular horse in this series is Maron, which is a white horse with a beautiful yellow mane.
Silver Spoon actually carries an important message, which is to show that animals deserve the same (if not more) respect than people do. It is all about caring for these amazing creatures.
Season 2 is full of horse action. Even though it is not centered around horse racing, there is plenty that horse racing enthusiasts would enjoy such as taking care of these incredible creatures.
Walkure Romanze
This is another academy anime series, but it is not particularly about horse racing. However, horses still play an important role and there is plenty of horses to be seen. This anime is based on students that train to become knights.
So, even though it is not centered around horse racing, there is plenty of horse riding since horses are crucial elements to knights. It is quite an interesting anime that is fun to watch, and there are many memorable horses that will appear throughout the episodes.
