Most Memorable Online Gaming Heroes of All Time Posted Feb 12, 2022
There are a number of key components that go into making a truly great video game, but maybe the most important is the main character. It's very rare that a great video game has a hero that's hard to empathize with, or hard to like and in the same way an antagonist who isn’t frightening and fierce. With that said, there are some video game heroes that go above and beyond just being relatable and likable, there are some that won't ever be forgotten. We're going to take a trip down memory lane and explore some of the most brilliant and memorable gaming heroes of all time.
Indiana Jones
Indiana Jones was of course a film character first and foremost, before making it to books and video games. It says a lot about the strength of the character that all three ventures have been successful, with very few other heroes managing it. There have been numerous different video games (yes, he's starred in well over 20 different videogames!), but in the online sphere there's one category that stands out from the rest, slots games. There are several different Indiana Jones titles to play at casino Unibet under their slots category, which is no surprise as this character is one of the most well-known heroes around. One of the most interesting is a title called Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead. The title might be a surprise for an Indiana Jones themed slot, but the makers of the Rich Wilde make no secrets about who the hero is based on. From his cargo-style clothing right down to his haircut, Rich is certainly based on Indie. On this online slot in particular you'll be helping Rich navigate his way through a book of spells, hoping to hit some wilds along the way.
Super Mario
There's only so much you can do with a rectangle of 16 pixels by 12, but somehow Nintendo managed to make a character that's truly stood the test of time. Despite the obvious lack of detail, Mario the Italian plumber stole the hearts of many video gamers and has a legacy of video games that still have a huge following today. Although the Mario of recent releases has a great deal more detail, more than 15x as many pixels as his original predecessor, the company have still managed to keep the simple cartoon charm of this plucky plumber. At the time of the first release, the game was celebrated for its relatively complex gameplay and fascinating storyline. Looking back the gameplay seems charmingly simple and it's laudable that the makers have decided to, more or less, keep the forwards, backwards, up and down controls more or less unchanged. Today this simple game still has great storylines that really create intrigue, even if the graphics are a little more up to date.
Link
First released in 1986, The Legend of Zelda was catapulted onto our video game screens and gave us a pointy-eared, sword-swinging hero named Link. One of the very forerunners of video gaming, this remarkable hero is another protagonist who's more than stood the test of time. The series is now perilously close to having 20 releases, each of them critically well received. It's a testament to the inventiveness of Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka the creators of the character and Nintendo the publishers of the game that he has been reinvented so many times without losing the original charm that drew us all to him in the first place. Whether he's slaying dragons, throwing chickens, whistling to trees, or galloping across the open plains, Link is a formidable force. What more could you want from a video game hero?
