Anime Profile: Bamboo Blade

A high school kendo instructor, Toraji Ishida, is challenged by his former upperclassman, Kenzaburo Ishibashi, to a five on five female kendo match. The reason for this is the fact that Toraji beat Kenzaburo in a kendo meet years before. However, the only female member of Toraji's team is Kirino Chiba, the energetic captain of the club, so he's gotta find four more female students.

Sayako Kuwahara, a friend of Kirinos' that always changes her interests and goals, ends up joining the club, though she frequently leaves the club claiming to quit, only to eventually return. Another member of the club is Toyama, a bully that rarely shows up and claims to be teaching underclassmen, instead only beating them with a shinai. Searching for members, Toraji finds Tamaki Kawazoe, a kendo prodigy who sees kendo not as a sport, but a chore she does at home. It seems unlikely Tamaki would join, but end up joining after Toyama starts beating up Danjuro. Tamaki wins easily, and so the story begins.
