Anime Want to Bes?

Post by Dark Wing »

I'm most likely not the only one but I've notice a trend lately. Alot of these tv companies are trying to keep up with the rest of pop culture by sneaking abit of japanese anime style into their own animation. (kinda sad if you ask me  ) Some of these examples include Teen Titans, Totally Spys, W.I.T.C.H, Super Monkey Hyper whatever it's called, and most recently Avatar: the last air bender (which is the best i've seen so fare). If this is ture (and most likely it is) it proves that anime is starting to become more and more popular as time goes on and ultimately well be the only form animation people will be willing to watch as I predicted some years back. Now is this a good thing their trying to do keep up with ever changing pop culture? I think so :D but they still need to do some more work before they can compete with true animes.

What do you all think?

Anime Want to Bes?

Companies are making comics that have manga style drawing, and cartoons with anime style drawings.

The companies think that the drawing style is what is popular. But, some companies think story is also important.

But this has many people confused, and many people who are new to anime are confusing these American creations as anime.

I am divided about whether this is a good thing, or not. But this could be a sign of the future, that anime lovers can come out of hiding, and not be thought of as weird, strange, or crazy.

My thought exactly if this is what the future holds anime fans can at last say that they like anime and not get odd looks but this could also get out of hand and people may start to forget what anime truely is.

Anime Want to Bes?

I don't think that the stigma of liking cartoons has subsided yet. I keep hearing stories about people in their 20's and 30's receiving odd looks from video store workers when they rent anime.

Avatar, shows that someone making American cartoons realizes that it isn't just the drawing style, but also the story.

I don't know if the American cartoons will become competition for anime, but the younger generation is confusing the two, but are confusing it as anime, instead of anime as American cartoons.

One of the reasons companies are turning to the anime, and manga drawing styles, is because they have fallen behind in the market. Manga sales in Japan are higher than Marvel and DC Comics' worldwide sales combined. Companies are trying to regain their fan base. They are constantly loosing profits to anime and manga sales. If anything, this is a business move to bring in more profits.

Also, anime and manga distribution in the US is becoming a lucrative market. Small companies have begun to appear to distribute anime and manga for the licencers, translaters, and dubbers.

Anime has finally come out of the closet in the US, but the stigma is still there, which is holding back progress.

Too true it's all about business and how to make a profit but people don't realize without any real fan base there is no profit to be made. It's like whit the cable companies who are holding down the anime network they don't get it either it's suppost to be about what the fans want. And with the odd looks i know exactly what you mean I'm 19 years old and people keep asking me aren't you too old to be watching cartoons it's unbelieveable. So i sit and try to explain to them how anime is totally diffrent from cartoons. After like 10 minutes or so they still don't get it maybe because thire brains are to small to think out side the box.

Anime Want to Bes?

I don't know why A.D. Vision only has The Anime Network as On Demand only. Despite ADV's library of anime, I don't think they have enough to keep a 24 hour cable channel going strong for too long.

There has also been an increase in competition for broadcasting anime on TV. Anime is becoming popular, and public knowledge.

Most people are brought up in households that don't encourage open-mindedness. So, many people believe that cartoons are only for children, same thing with comics. It isn't that they can't think outside the box, it is just that they haven't been exposed to different ideas, and now are set in their ways. All that stems from society's view of what is acceptable, and what isn't.

Some people turn to anime, just to spite their parents.

But, all this comes back to, is this a good thing?

I watched 2 episodes of Avatar yesterday and I agree. While the animation is true to anime, the story and "lessons" are good as well. It is not just constant fighting and some bass ackwards story line and has nothing to do with anything.

Avatar deals with emotional struggle, friendship (like many animes) and the fighting is not overdone. The storyline is believable and the characters are as well.

Avatar gets my vote of confidence.

No people, the likely explanation is that these new American anime-type shows are created by members of our generation. The members of our generation who're into animation enough to look into it as a profession are mostly anime fans.

I keep finding threads on these forums where people talk about how taboo anime is, but it's perfectly common, you just have to pay attention to what sort of people you're bringing it up with...
It's generally just the bland lifeless and dimwitted folk who are likely to look down on someone for liking animation...
And Anime may be Japanese, different in drawing styles, and in a lot of cases more mature, but it's still a cartoon, just like a manga's just a large Japanese comic book... It's merely a matter of Western versus Eastern, and because of our generation, the two are continuing to mesh...
And, there's nothing wrong with adults watching any sort of cartoon. What about The Simpsons, Futurama, and Family Guy? These are American cartoons which can be fairly mature at times...

And, on your anime will dominate theory, that can never happen, for in the case of movies in the US, 3D will always be the preffered choice in animation.
And, 3D is what's new, so Anime can't really be reffered to as the future. Anime is the now.

Interesting point. But, some of these American cartoons are only using that style of drawing too attempt to cash in on the anime craze that seems to have appeared suddenly.

But, the next generation is confusing the American cartoons for Japanese cartoons. Which brings up this question, does the next generation want to see American cartoons after being exposed to Japanese cartoons?

That's exactly right! For some reason more and more people are coming to like anime(or cartoons some people can't tell the difference). If you know the reason for this please tell me.

I admit you do make a very good point. I never really thought that some of our own generation could have looked into making anime like shows but like Kyle said most of the American companies are only using anime drawing style as an attempt to fill their pockets. As a result the new generation of anime fans don't really know the difference well maybe when they get older they will after all when i was younger I never knew what anime was until some years later.

Well think about it like if you compair Japanese animes with American cartoons what difference do you see between the two?

Most American cartoons are random, all over the place, and has almost no point to them and the ones that do have story lines to them don't end i've only seen a handful that did. While most Japanese animes on the other hand are made with better animation, characters that have personalities and voices done so well you can actual relate to them, and good and thought out some of which have very mature themes to them.

Personaly I think it's because of that last reason Japanese animes are favored over most American cartoons but thats my opinion.
I know love because I know hate, I know joy because I know sorrow, I know pleasure because I know pain, I know the value of life because I know death all to well.

Because of the cultural differences...
& Anime has it's own unexplainable randommness, and its ocassional bit which is completely unrealistic due to extreme exaggeration...

(Also, if you want to get technical, if it's of the anime style, even if it's not from Japan, wouldn't it still be anime?)

Again, it's all merely a matter of Eastern versus Western...
And, their are Japanese within the US. This is "The Melting Pot," basically since the beginning, we've had people of all different cultures, but despite being called "The melting Pot," these cultures weren't doing any serious melting...
Now, that we have people of even more cultures than we did before, and that the different races are mixing, shouldn't the meshing of cultures be expected, and not to mention, isn't it needed to lesson prejudism and broaden future generations' minds?
Don't fight a good thing, just because it's different from what you're adjusted...

Besides, if they get into the lesser, in merely one-three years, they'll just want the real thing...
And, then when they're trying to get into the real, they may take a bit to figure out what the real thing's about, but so long as they're given proper guidance, any serious mistakes can be avoided...
Kids are like that with everything...
(Hence, why I'd never allow my kids to date before they were at least 15...)
