Petition for a Change of English Cast in the Forthcoming OVA

Post by Jackal 13mm »

As some of you may or may not know, Geneon/YKO has confirmed that a new Hellsing OVA is in the works, which promises to be much more faithful to the manga than the original TV series was. Many fans loved the original series, but felt the English dub was rather poorly acted — especially in comparison to the performances of Nakata, Nozawa, and the other Japanese seiyuu — and subsequently ruined many of the series' characters, along with the enjoyment of watching it in English for a lot of us. So, in response to this, an anti-Freeman petition has just been started on behalf of the fans who were dissatisfied with the job that Freeman (among others) did in the previous Hellsing series, and don't wish him to return and ruin Alucard's character again in the forthcoming OVA. I'd encourage all those who want a decent English dub this time, that's on par with the Japanese seiyuu's performances, to sign. Help out and show your support!

The petition can be found here.

Hmm...most people I talk to are of the opinion that the voices were very appropriate and well done for the series originally. The accents were quite appropriate for a series taking place in England, and I personally would look forward to hearing them again.

I've found a link for a petition to bring back the original Hellsing voice actors: Here's the link:

No, actually, I really liked Freeman's creepy tone; it gave Alucard that manic malevolence that fits with his visual character. I put him as the exception regarding the accents. Makes sense: Alucard isn't a Brit.

True. Alucard, who was originally known as "Vlad the Impaler", was Transelvanian.

You're not that odd. I'm sure at least some of us think Freeman did a better job of Alucard than Nakata (I do, at least).

You can look to the Alucard profile to compare voices, since there's an English and Japanese video clip from a scene in episode 6.

yeah i tried watching the japanses dub on mine and i had to change it back after like five minutes. I just like the english dub so much better...but its neat to hear everyone in different voices...kinda awkward though...*shrugges*
