The real question is, where did Sesshomaru get the Ninjoutou (Staff of Heads)? He obviously knew its location behind the waterfall, but it leads one to wonder just how it came into his possession.

Had Jaken not become his servant, I think Sesshomaru would've used the staff himself in order to find Inu-Papa's tomb. Admittingly, it might've taken him longer to find its location without Jaken's aid (the toad is useful).
