Cloning

Post by Ender »

So if clones are meant to be exactly identical...why did one of Nancy's clones have a change of heart and decided to befriend The Paper? That confused me..answers anyone?

Yes clones are exact copies, but that's just in the genetics. Your personality is not only controlled by the genetics (that's my opinion at least) but also environment, expirience and so on. That's why the clone behaved diffrent (I think)

Yeah..i know that it's basic psychology:

Two factors that yeild behavior is Nature and Nurture. It means not only genetics control your behavior, but also the environment you grew up in. But what made Nancy want to help her out. Clearly her and paper had not that strong of an emotional bond. Also Nancy states that her actions are a result of her disgruntled love. That is what confuses me. If the other clone loved the guy...why didn't she?

the first one loved him but was too emotionally attached to other things, so he created a new one that didn't have the influences of the 1st one. Think about it like this: think of something that affected you majorly when you where a kid... if it didn't happen, if you were reborn w/o your past, you'd be a completely diff't person, right? that's what happened w/ Nancy

at least, that's my theory...

Actually, the I-Jin take into account some of the current problems with the idea of cloning.

"Cloning" as we know it is not exact yet. When you make the clone, you inadvertently introduce subtle imperfections into the genetic code, sort of like floating-point roundoff errors. As the generations count up, the errors begin to add up and create noticable differences or even faults in the clones.

Many stories that involve clones (R.O.D. included) make use of this device, as can be seen with the swapped hand preference with the two clones of Mata Hari.
