Hi. I want to start collecting Robotech, but I am worried and confused about some things.
1) Is the show any good?
2) What anime is it a lot like?
3) Should I be worried that there are no subs.
4) Should I get the Box Sets or Remastered Box Sets?
5) Anything Else?

Thanx a lot! On another board, some guy told me the show sucked. He said that I should be worried that it isn't subbed, but he didn't help me any. I figured the show would be like Gundam, which is a good thing.
Also, thanx for telling me to buy remastered. I would've been stumped forever.

Well you can buy a subbed version if you like,and the remastered is better cause the old version fade alittle in and out at times

It is a good show, although it's better in it's original form. I'll explain that later
It's not exactly like Gundam, as Gundam is about the lives of those trying to survive a war. Robotech's first part is all about the love triangle in it. The second and third parts are more like Gundam.

Now to explain. The truth is Robotech is not the original title of the anime in that series. For good or for bad Harmony Gold acquiered the licences for 3 completely unrelated series and wrote up a story tieing them together.
Robotech is actually made up of the original series titled "Macross", "Southern Cross", and "Geneisis Climber Mospeda". These series have nothing to do with each other, and Macross was very popular in Japan under it's original title. So popular that it's had sequels like "Macross 7", "Macross Plus" and "Macross II" and a prequel "Macross Zero"
Now Harmony Gold still holds licence for Robotech and has issues with the other Macross titles. Rather than admit what they did while it did get Robotech on TV it might have been a bad idea in the long run. Harmony Gold claims exclusive domestic rights to Macross titles. The problem is the studio that sold them those rights may not have the rights to the later Macross titles that Harmony Gold claims to have.
