There is some information about them, and about some of the characters.
I suggest comparing the two descriptions, and decide for yourself.
Personally, I felt Evangelion was some-what over rated.
I haven't seen RahXephon.

Wow. Choose between Eva and Rah. Duuz would say skip both and buy Gundam, which would be a good place to start .... but if I had to choose, I guess I'd go with Eva because it is, in its own way, a foundation anime. Rah is good and certainly blazes a few trails of its own but it is similar to Eva.

I like them both a lot. Eva gets pretty convoluted toward the end. Rah gets pretty esoteric but wraps itself up a bit neater.

But I love Eva better. It has a deeper story.

I agree with Dark Lilly. Evengelion is an anime that kind of set the standards for what anime should be. Yoshiyuki Tomino, the creator of the series, took a simple futuristic storyline of mechs fighting alienistic enemies and turned into an anime that ventured into a more universal world, with deep thematic elements. I own the EVA boxset and it is by far one of my best anime purchases.
