I didnt manage to see the ending. So how does it end? What happened to Vash and his brother Knives?

The 1st half of the episode is a reflection of the entire series, as well as the final piece of Vash and Knives' story.

Vash and Knives--adopted by the project seeds crew, vash and knives were often abused and beaten by steve, a crew member who feared them due to their extreme intelligence and their large growth in a year. vash seeks rem for guidance. knives soon shows signs of being evil. "you have to kill the spiders to save the butterflies. It's easier that way." he says after smashing a spider with a butterfly in the web. vash and rem are shocked. later, steve is accused of raping a female crew member. knives actually telepathically made her accuse him. He is cryogenically frozen. Soon the other male crew member goes crazy and shoots the woman. Rem tries to reason with him, but the captain launches him out of the airlock. Rem is angry with the captain. later, knives kills the captain and readjusts the ship fleet to crash on what is later known as Planet Gunsmoke.
Rem gets the boys to the escape pod. She decides to readjust the ship trajctories to save all the people. Before leaving, she says "Vash, take care of Knives!!!" The ship explodes on atmospheric entry and Vash mourns her death.
When they reach the surface, Knives tells Vahs of the majesty of his plan. "They all die." he says. "except of course, for the fraction who will survive due to rem's incessant meddling."
At the mention of his surrogate mother, Vash tackles Knives, who overpowers him and tells him to calm down. They wander for a while, then Knives finds their ship and ventures off. He returns a year with two guns. Vash gets one. Knives blows up a human settlement with his, and Vash tackles him. They wrestle, and the guns go flying. They each dive, and Knives grabs his first. Vash grabs his and shoots Knives in the leg. Knives is in disbelief. "Did you shoot me? Did you actually shoot me?" He cries and falls to the ground. Vash grabs both guns.
Vash flees and meets the people of the flying ship from earlier in the series. They take him in, and he finds a relative of Rem, Revnunt Buskus.
Vash goes to the 3rd city of July to find him, but Knives already got there and killed him. Vash is shocked. He draws his guns, but Knives shoots his arm off. Vash fires his angel arm at Knives.
The flashback is done. The series starts 50 years later.

Vash arrives, and puts Wolfwood's cross punisher on the ground. Knives greets Vash. Vash and Knives battle, it is awesome. You MUST see this episode. buy the dvds. The angel arms face off at 100%, there is a game of russian roulette, but the best is at the end. Knives disarms Vash after russian roulette, and charges the angel arms to fire. Vash is losing hope, when he hears Wolfwood "What are you doing Needle-Noggin?! It's right next to you. Use it!"

Vash smacks him arm on the ground.(he's lying on the ground) and lifts his arm with wolfwood's assault rifle drawn. He shoots Knives, who drops the guns. Vash shoots Knives. He patches him up, ditches the guns, casts off his coat, and returns to town.

i didn't really like the ending it left to much to the imagination which sometimes is cool but its not like knives is just going to give up on trying to kill people they should have added more but thats just me
