Conrad's: Heart of Darkness (help wanted)
I'm making my way (slowly!) through Conrad's Heart of Darkness. This book is awesome; and I recommend it to the advanced readers of the forum. The text has to be read along with some history of exploitation of Africa in the Belgian Congo and most likely a dictionary too! (I think my vocabulary has increased 10 points!)
What I'm after, though I doubt I'll find it, is a buddy with which to discuss this text! I'm studying the text for my final year next year and I want to have a really good understanding. We're also doing some comparitive analysis between the novel and the fantastic movie Apocolypse Now which is something of a filmic interpretation of events and themes in Conrad's Heart of Darkness.
The book is probably a tad beyond the general populace of the forum - but it's worth a try.

I felt like a race horse in a world without racetracks or a champion college footballer suddenly confronted by Wall Street and a business suit, his days of glory shrunk to a little gold cup on his mantel with a date engraved on it like a tombstone.

Damn, I read the book back in `89. I did buy a new copy of it back in `03 and read it then again. I was bored and I have a long commute. Anyways, it is a good book. There was a movie about the book as well which was made for TV around `98. I didn't see the movie. I had meant to but I always missed it. I'm too lazy to put it in tivo now adays.
As for the compare and contrast to Apocolypse Now I had to do that as well, both in high school and in college.

Awesome! Thanks for the information about the movie mate, I'll check it out.
Did you find the comparison easy? What were the main types of thing you had to do? In general? Themes? Characters?

Dude! You want me to recall something I did 12 years ago in college. LOL.
I believe I wrote a page or two comparing the situation with the rivets with the of them trying to obtain fuel (I believe it was fuel). I also believe that I wrote a couple papers comparing Marlo Brando to the other guy, who's name escapes me after spending time at the company holiday party tonight...

Where can I get my hands on this movie? Was it a limited thing, like 1984?
I can't find it anywhere, whats it called? And who directed it? I don't want to have to download the whole frickin thing

Oh, yeah, I know about Apocolypse Now, but that's different. According to Theo there is a proper Heart Of Darkness, exactly like the book, with the same characters, not like Apocolypse Now, which is the storyline; set in the Vietnam War.

Well I'm going to say "it's cool Tifa, it's all cool" just so I can rekindle this thread and hopefully get someone's attention. though I understand, it's a very complicated text and don't really expect any help lol.
