Okay so The whole episode was a flash back with Zolo.
1) a girl beat him
2) he trained to beat her
3) they promised to each other that one of them would become the greatest swordsman that ever lived.
4) the girl has a match at her dojo with some dude
he loses
5) he gets revenge by killing her
4kids edits that saying that she's in the hospital and will never hold a sword again.
6) Zolo gets older and you don't see the girl anywhere.
Therefor it is assumed she is dead!
(which I'm almost positive she is)
