i play chess against my laptop. i always lose, even on difficulty level 1. i suck, and yet i'm a nerd. its a way to get me thinking. nerds are the ones who take chess seriously, like, go to competitions and stuff. and use those silly clock things. chess is a game, meant to be a way to have fun. it may be boring to some, but its laterally challenging to others.
