Yeah, "ii" is another adjective for "good", it's also more common. The problem is that you don't normally make past and negative forms of "ii" so you have to use "yoi"Yume~ wrote:pfffff... sorry about that! i learn japanese by myself here and i do that sometimes... ==PPgeishaboy wrote:Eh?Yume~ wrote:couldn't it be kokoro no kizu?

but one more thing and sorry if im wrong again, but isn't the adjective ''ii''? Sorry, im without my japanese writing system at the moment.. ^^'' >.<''

I believe the most natural pattern is "-te yokatta", although "de yokatta" and "ga yokatta" are sometimes seen too. The "ga" pattern seems to be more reserved for nouns or subjects without verbs, without the use of "koto" (or "no"), but I can't see why it wouldn't work.geishaboy wrote:As for "I'm glad that you are alive" well, I guess you could say "anata ha ikiru koto ga yokatta" あなたは生きることがよかった, and more informal and natural would probably come out "ikiru yokatta" 生きるよかった, although to me, this would only really sounds natural if for some reason you thought the person in question was deadKeiji wrote: Now for a question: yokata is "I'm glad". But how can I say "I'm glad that..."? For example, "I'm glad that you're alive" etc.
Anyway, I guess I would suggest 生きてよかった "ikite yokatta".
You might find it interesting that "ii" and "yoi" are consistently the same kanji. All of these:Yume~ wrote: but one more thing and sorry if im wrong again, but isn't the adjective ''ii''? Sorry, im without my japanese writing system at the moment.. ^^'' >.<''
良い *most common
好い
善い
佳い
can be read either "ii" or "yoi" and all mean "good, okay, great, fine", etc.

Okay, thanks! That was the only example I could think of right then, but oh well.Dreams wrote:I believe the most natural pattern is "-te yokatta", although "de yokatta" and "ga yokatta" are sometimes seen too. The Jouyou Kanji list consists of 1,945 kanji, which is the standard you must memorize to be considered literate in Japan. Although most adult Japanese people know at least 3,000 or more.
I believe there's a total of 6,000 kanji characters in fluent use over in Japan (not counting archaic ones, etc). But the total of Chinese kanji in existence since they began writing is something ridiculous, like 50,000.
Fun!

I have nothing to compare that to, I just always think anyone knowing any amount of kanji is doing an excellent job. XD
Kids in Japan learn kanji all the way through high school. Of course, by the time they leave elementary school, they know 1000 or so. ^^;
I bet you know more than you think, too. That happens a lot to me. I also have many blonde moments where I forget easy kanji in the jouyou kanji list. -_-;
