I appreciate Kai a lot when it comes to beyblading..everytime.
He has never let anyone down..I mean, he is GREAT in every battle and then he doesnt even cheat..awesome beyblader

Well he did let Yuriy and his team mates down when he lost against Takao. Only after beating up Sergei and Boris before the match leaving them out cold, just to make it 'fair' to Takao who was taking a nap anyway. His efforts were kind of wasted there. But it did teach them all a lesson anyway.

There was also the time he refused to fight Daichi properly, (which was a disrespect to his true talents) just because he 'only wanted to fight Takao' to get back at him as revenge for him loosing those matches.
In that episode, you can see Hiro knows this, he watches Kai from a higher stage of maturity but doesn't interfere, knowing Kai will eventually learn.

He is fair, a good character etc. but he's also immature in his actions sometimes, but that makes him a better character because he's ironically less than what he wants to be which is 'perfect'.
