If you crack open a next gen console, even a ps2 or xbox.. or cube, you void your warranty.. if any. Wiping your lens down with an ordinary towel could damage your unit even further..
Do not fret however! If you own a next gen console and if it breaks, just call in to Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo and explain your situation to them and 9/10 they will refurbish or replace your damaged console as long as you can hand over the original sale receipt.
Do not be an idiot and do it yourself..unless of course you actualy are a technition of sorts and no what the hell your doing.

Re: Cleaning your console
It's not really that hard to clean them. you just gotta be careful, really careful. Not shove a Vacuum in there and start trying to suck up all the dust, wrong move and bye bye console. All ya have to do is blow all the dust out and give the lens a light clean if possible.

Re: Cleaning your console
I have an old boxy PS2 my friend gave me a few years ago. Once in a while it would not read a disc(video game), but others it would. But now it doesn't at all. Nothing. My ex boyfriend told me a long time ago that the more you play DVDs or CDs in it, the more worn out it got and wouldn't work(I didn't have a DVD player then. I only got one a year ago. XD). I have opened the part that the disc goes in and I blew inside it, but it didn't work. Nothing loaded. And my controllers didn't work as well, but they are all old as well.
Sadly, I don't have the money for a new PS2, and I certainly don't have the money to get it repaired, either. Not to mention, I don't think there is an actual "professional" who could do it. (I live in a very small area and too far away from the biggest town. The only
town I'd trust or may have a 'professional' is an over 2 hour drive from here
)
And I CERTAINLY can't do it by myself...(I am super unlucky and more klutzier than Bella from Twilight, haha). But that link you posted helps a lot. I'll read it over more sometime and see if I can maybe attempt something. :3 Thanks!! <3
