these are my comparrison's of both light (kira) and Lelouch (zero)...i think i'm off a bit... but i haven't watch DN in a long time... i feel like doing a personal comparison of the two...

Light is corrupted during his fight with L, his original goal of getting rid of crime and creating a perfect law abiding world is overtaken by trying to cover his tracks when he was almost caught, and even further when he was caught... his past "misdeeds" finally caught up to him and he died ^_^... Kira is a less public figure who's "hand" can reach anybody he chooses, but his cult following is everywhere in the very different modern classes.

Lelouche felt helpless till he got his Geass, with his Public and planned use of Zero he embraces his "darkness" and he works to create a new world order so that his Sister and later his friends can live happily... Zero is a very political figure who's actions have earned impressive strategic military victories, his "reach" is only to those his black knights can affect, his following is most of the Japanese public.

I kinda want to go on topic on which is better a deathnote+shinigami eyes combo, or a geass? It's also sketchy who's "eyes" are better since it's based off one's personal thoughts...

-The Shinigami eyes allows a human to see everyone's true name... but at a cost of their life... it is deadly when used with a deathnote
-The Geass are eye abilities which allow human to have special abilities which affects the human mind and

I know that Lelouch and Light aren't alike or fighting for the same sort of thing but when Lelouch kinda...shot Clovis it surprised me. But at least he showed his face instead of writing it in some notebook miles away.

The geass does have a draw back as you stated Mao's ability to read minds went out of control and he went more or less insane and Rolo's isolation (though I believe that's due to his traumatic childhood which spawned from people making him use his geass to kill people, not so much his ability to use the geass.) Also on the subject of Euphemia and Nunnally, I believe that Lelouch won't really be caught in a situation like that because Nunnally can't see and intern is immune to his geass since it requires eye contact.

the king has the power of changing one's memories...a very powerful tool when you have people who already do your dirty work, and Rolo's has the ability to stop a person's presence of time in a limited area and time
