a slow, steady swelling
had been crushing my heart
creeping against me
pushing against the walls
of my soul
seeping into my subconscious
whispering words of terror
biting with fangs of passion.
the pain remains
though the edema has gone
because i am not yet
used to its absense.
the light of the future
rushes in
to take its place
searing the wounds
stopping the bleeding
soothing the jagged scars
the blistering
the burning
the boiling chasms
cool slowly...
slowly..
the surface hardens
enough to walk upon
without scorching
my bare feet
but i am afraid
to walk again
