Why?
Hey names Kalayne and I have a question that has been bugging me since the beginning of time. WHY, does everyone (meaning the majority) of people, prefer the Japanese versions of anime series? I really don't have a problem with the English dubbed versions, but I hear that most people don't like the English dubbed versions.

Re: Why?
In addition to what Symos has said, I believe that a major factor would be the voices. Anime is not a very popular medium. As such, anime companies can't always hire good VAs. Do not misunderstand, there are quite a few good anime dubs (the Mobile Suit Gundam, Dragonball and RahXephon dubs come to mind), but most of the best dubs never make it on TV. Most of the mainstream anime is dubbed poorly. As a result, most TV broadcasted anime have terrible dubs. Some examples would include The Visions of Escaflowne, Gundam Seed and everything 4Kids has done. (Yugioh, One Piece, Pokemon, etc...). In comparison, the Japanese voices are generally more fluid or sound better. This could possibly be attributed to the fact that as we don't know the language, it is much more difficult to pick out faults and problems.

Re: Why?
Ah thanks. I thought it may have had something to do with the scenes. I was mildly surprised that the Japanese versions were not as..childish as the American edited versions. Of course I live in Australia and if you don't have cable, then you have a snowballs chance in hell, at seeing many Animes. We've had Pokemon, Crushgear, Dragon Ball Z/GT, Yugioh, Digimon, Sailor Moon and Mew Mew Power, that I am aware of. I have heard though, of the really popular animes like Inuyasha, Gundam Wing, Yu Yu Hash...whatever it is, etc, so I can't really comment of the dubbing of the series'. It was kinda hard to get used to the Japanese version animes because of the VAs used, have much different tones. All I can say is thank god I understand Japanese or I would have been lost, not all eps of animes I have seen, have had subs!

Well, each to their own...
I still prefer the Japanese version over everything.
The original format is what I mostly go for. I seem to connect better if it's in that form rather than the dubbed in this instance. The expressions, tone of voice, and the information that the anime gives is more accurate too (don't have to worry about squishing something to fit the mouths for an example) and you get the just about the full story.
For other reasons why I like the Japanese version, it's already been said. Other reasons probably flew out of my mind at the moment.

Re: Why?
I actually prefer dubs so that I don't have to constantly press pause so that I can read the subtitles. I mean, dubs allow me to actually watch the anime. The Japanese voices are generally better than the dub voices but there are exceptions. I hate it though when people b*tch and complain about how they dislike the dub voices. The voices are not a real problem with me as long as the characters don't get voices that contradict their personality.

Re: Why?
Sometimes the English voice actors just plain suck (Naruto). Also, the japanese versions of anime are sometimes more voilent if they're on TV. America is censored too much, so they feel that they have to tweak an anime, or, god forbid, kids start to do the crap they see on the TV
. I'll admit though that some English Animes have the benefits. The voice actors for Evangelion, and Hellsing i thought were really cool.
