Gundam SEED/DESTINY name origins...

Post by Black Plague »

There are quite a few unique names in the series. I would like to know where a few originated and what they mean.

If possible, could someone point me towards a site that lists the meanings?

Thanks.

I know one of them is named for a nickname that the voice actor had.
Takanori Nishikawa (TM Revolution) did Miguel in the first season and for destiny he was Heine. Heres what wikipedia says:

The name "Westenfluss" is a pun of Nishikawa's name: both Westenfluss and Nishikawa mean "west river"; "Heine" was a play on his nickname Haine (灰猫, Haine?)

heres some more i found out:
ama-gian ancient Sumerian cuneiform word meaning "freedom".
Cagalii kagaribi (a watch fire or a bonfire)
Kira= killer, Yamato= the era of japanese history

Lunamaria Hawkemay have derived from or was a corruption of Lunar maria (singular "Lunar mare") which are basaltic plains on the moon, mistakened by early astronomers to be seas, since maria is Latin for seas.

The Nazca-class of ZAFT is named (or just a coincidence) by a plate I believe off the coast of South America that kinda looks like a Nazca...
