Mainstream vs. Lesser Known Animes

This topic is to save the "Favorite Character Thread" from being locked/deleted and such.

Okay, so mainstreams animes (e.g- *Naruto) with huge fanbases.
VS.
Lesser Known animes (e.g- *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) with not so big fanbases.

I still believe this is a matter of taste, but I'm sure some people would like continue the "discussion" they had started in the before mentioned thread.
I'm one of those stupid people who love most animes... except RahXephon, but that's only because I dislike mecha - so I'm not going to be able to contribute much.

Keep it clean guys, no telling people to drop off the planet now.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure sucks, however, whether i like an anime or not doesn't depend on how mainstream it is. there are plenty of good non-mainstream animes out there.

That's actually a really good example! I love Midori Days, it was one of my favorite manga ever - Kazorou Inoue is my favorite Mangaka next to Eiichiro Oda.

It's what creators of Manga's are called, or at least in the Magan/Book forum that's what I've learned.

I have all eight as well. The first one was really good, and the eighth book really inspired me =D He has a very enchanting talent to make a story that could be so seedy be oddly magical.

Now, I'll tell you right now that there are some mangas I hate without even trying them. But I have good reasons. These manga include things such as Eyeshield 21, and any other sports amnga. I hate sports, thus I won't read any manga that has to do with sports.

Now, I don't mind if you guys like those mangas. If that's the type of stuff you like, then by all means read it. I'm not saying that you can't read it just because I don't like it. If we all liked the same things, then the world would be a boring place to live.

Yes it is, it's slightly fantasy as well - but that isn't a chosen genre I don't think.

That's kind of like me, except I hate all mecha anime. Someone told me that the girls in RahXephon were really cute and funny, and I like comical girls - so I bought all three mangas and I absolutely hated it to pieces. The girls were funny, but the fact that giant robot alien things kept bursting in and out of the frames ruined it for me.
Because of that, I can't watch any mecha anime without becoming immediatly bored - even if I watch the whole thing. I can't watch Evangelion, or any Gundam animes. I could barely get through Transformers in school!

The only one I can stomach is Full Metal Panic!, and that's because it focuses mainly on the characters.
I don't mind people who like mecha anime either, but I hate all mecha anime, mainstream like Evangelion or Lesser Known like... I have no idea.

(I liked the characters and music in EyeShield21 - football bores me to no end however)

Personally, I could care less. If I like it, Im gonna watch it, I don't care how overrated or underrated it is.

But, I will say this, sometimes I do kinda prefer underrated anime in the sense of that it doesn't get played out and boring like mainstream anime.

I love Naruto and I love Bleach, but jeez, the fans can take it overboard unnecessarly.

But then again, I guess you can't control what becomes popular with the fans.

Well, it's like I said, we have to be different. If you where pretty much just a carbon copy of me with the only difference being that you're female, I wouldn't be able to stand you. You'd drive me crazy. We all need to have different opinions, whether other people like those opinions or not.

Underrated anime is sometimes really good because it's so original it's... for lack of a better word, different - and fresh to watch!
With mainstream anime, sometimes everyone tells me what happens before I even watch the show so I don't bother.

Ha Ha, tell me about it, but I'm a fan too - and I've done my fair share of 'uncalled for rampaging'. Mainly towards Yu-Gi-Oh! and all the people who told me it was stupid xDD
Now when people tell me that, I just laugh and nod. I still enjoy the show, I just understand what they're saying.

Oh, and Ichigo - yes indeed, that would be boring. Luckily there are very few people who like and hate all of the exact same shows I do; or they do for very different reasons.
Though, those I have met who are similar (aka; One Piece fans who watch the show for Usopp) are good friends because of our common fandom.

But yeah, I've heard that philosphy before - if everyone was the same; no progress would be made.
No one would ever make new brands and genres of anime - and we'd all watch the same stuff over and over again.

I used to dislike some anime's purely because someone I disliked liked them. I'd like them when I wasn't around them - because they weren't all that bad.

One example was InuYasha at a stage. There was a girl on in a different forum who liked InuYasha, and would always argue with me over everything (and she'd usually win) - so I decided that I'd hate the show InuYasha purely because she loved it so much.

-but years have passed and I no longer know that girl, and I have four box sets of the show. I remember saying stuff like "It's so repetitive!" or "It's so cliche!" and of course "the characters suck!", and I hear others say that and I can nod and agree.
It is repetitive, and it is cliche and... some of the characters... suck...

But there are parts when I just can't help but grin while watching, because it's cute, or funny - or touching.
When I hated it I had never actually sat down and watched the show; and when I did, I loved it.

...I'm sure glad that girl isn't around anymore - or else she'd be laughing so hard... >>
