Practice Help for the Student

It's not nearly as complex as English, but as usual we find ways to screw it up.

Practice Help for the Student

Post by Demyx »

I'm a sophomore at my high school, and currently in Japanese 2. I don't know a whole lot, but I know a lot of basic conversation things. The problem is that I don't really have anyone to practice speaking with in person or online. Any hints, offers, or ideas?

Well, first question: is there anyone from your class you can practice with? There's got to be someone else who would enjoy talking with you in Japanese.

The only other suggestion I have is to get a Japanese penpal: http://www.japan-guide.com/local/jp/?aCAT=2

You can search via age, interest, gender, etc. Many of them want help with their English and, in return, will help you with your Japanese. But I've learned that even penpals who are willing to make this commitment are very polite, and feel bad about correcting you. So if you're looking to improve your language skills, make sure you let them know that they can correct you at any time and it won't hurt your feelings. In addition, there are a lot of penpals on there who want to talk via Skype, so if you have a microphone, it's a really neat thing to do.

Uhm... No to the first question. I don't know that many people in my class (I know that sounds weird, but I just really don't talk to them.)

And I do have a microphone, though crappy it is, but what's Skype?

Well, you could always give the first option a try.
